Background: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a serious condition associated with early mortality, decreased quality of life, and increased health-care expenditures.

Methods: Data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) collected from 1999 to 2012 were used. Subjects were divided into 4 estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) categories: stage 1: eGFR≥90mL/min/1.73m, stage 2: eGFR 60-89, stage 3: eGFR 30-59, and stage 4/5: eGFR<30, and 3 age strata (<45y, 45-64, 65+). Associations between protein intake and albuminuria were determined.

Results: A total of 45,259 subjects were included. Despite decreasing protein intake, there was a significant increase in the prevalence of albuminuria with decreasing levels of eGFR. Multivariable analysis showed that albuminuria was associated with daily protein intake in patients ≥65years old with stage 1 disease, and that diabetes was associated with albuminuria in patients ≥65years old with stage 2 and 3 diseases. Overall, albuminuria in patients with stage 1 disease was associated with hours of sitting per day and blood glucose level.

Conclusion: Albuminuria was associated with daily protein intake in patients of 45-64years old with stage 1 CKD disease, and was associated with hours of sitting per day and blood glucose level. These data further support the importance of lifestyle changes in the management of CKD, especially in patients with early-stage disease.

Objective: To investigate how estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) decline following sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitors (SGLT2i) initiation predicts long-term cardiorenal outcomes.

Methods: From 2016 to 2020, a longitudinal cohort of 4942 diabetic patients treated with SGLT2i were enrolled and followed until December 2021. Patients were categorized into mild (≤30%), moderate (>30%∼≤40%) and severe (>40%) decline groups by the maximal eGFR change between 2 to 12 weeks after SGLT2i treatment.

An increased renal resistive index (RRI) and proteinuria can predict an estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) decline in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) of various causes. This study hypothesized that the RRI and proteinuria interact to determine disease progression in patients with CKDs of unknown origin. : One hundred and fifty six patients (age 76.

Long-Term Results of Kidney Transplantation in Patients Aged 60 Years and Older.

J Clin Med

December 2024

Department of Nephrology, Transplantation and Internal Medicine, Medical University of Silesia, 40-027 Katowice, Poland.

The results of kidney transplantation (KTx) in elderly patients are deteriorated by more frequent use of organs procured from older or extended criteria donors (ECDs). To eliminate the influence of donor factors on the transplantation results, the pair analysis method was applied. The study aimed to assess the survival, during long-term follow-up after transplantation, of recipients and transplanted kidneys, graft function, and factors influencing survival in recipients aged 60 years and older (≥60) compared to recipients aged less than 60 years (<60) who received a kidney from the same brain death donor (DBD).

: Uric acid levels are linked to cardiovascular outcomes and mortality, especially in chronic kidney disease (CKD). However, their impact across varying kidney function remains unclear. : We conducted a retrospective cohort study using the Observational Medical Outcomes Partnership Common Data Model (OMOP-CDM) database from a single center.

Background: Renal adverse drug reactions (ADRs) associated with tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) in the treatment of chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) are relatively rare, and there is currently no standardized protocol for their management. Therefore, this study aimed to summarize renal ADRs related to TKIs use in CML and propose an evidence-based approach to monitor and manage these ADRs.

Methods: A systematic literature review was performed to identify renal ADRs associated with TKIs in CML.
