A case study of an 84-year-old woman in an elderly care facility highlighted her oral mucosa discoloration, leading to a diagnosis of this syndrome.
Increasing awareness of conditions like Laugier-Hunziker syndrome is crucial for dental practice, particularly in settings with elderly patients.

Pigmented fungiform papillae of the tongue (PFPT) is a rare benign disorder mainly observed in darker-skinned individuals, but its occurrence in Koreans had limited research prior to this study.
This study analyzed 19 Korean patients diagnosed with PFPT from 1995-2021, revealing a higher prevalence in females and an average diagnosis age of 41.1 years.
Findings also indicated that PFPT often coincides with other pigmentary disorders and common dermoscopic patterns observed were the rose petal and cobblestone patterns; sex hormones may play a role in its development.
