Both chiral OFm monosubstituted cyclo(l-Glu-l-Glu) and cyclo(d-Glu-d-Glu) display a robust gelation ability in a variety of organic solvents and water. In contrast to an individual enantiomer, their racemate can form rapidly recoverable thixotropic hydrogels with a remarkably shorter thixotropic recovery time. This unexpected thixotropic behavior is induced by the random arrangement of d- and l-enantiomers in the cell units, leading to the formation of "pseudoracemate", noncrystalline self-assemblies in the resulting 3D fibrous network.

Superhydrophobic separation membranes are considered to be one of the most promising technologies for oil-water separation. However, the plastic waste generated from discarded membranes poses a challenge to the preparation of degraded superhydrophobic separation membranes for achieving eco-friendly separation. In this study, superhydrophobic poly(lactic acid) (PLA) membranes were fabricated using a non-solvent induced phase separation method assisted by l-cysteine modified carbon dots (Cys-CDs).

Olive oil production is one of the most developed Europe's sectors, producing olive oil and undesirable by-products, such as olive mill wastewater (OMWW) and organic waste. OMWW, containing large amounts of compounds (mainly polyphenols, phenols, and tannins), represents a problem. In fact, polyphenols have dual nature: i) antioxidant beneficial properties, useful in many industrial fields, ii) biorefractory character making them harmful in high concentrations.

Adhesives play a critical role in the assembly of electronic devices, particularly as devices become more diverse in form factors. Flexible displays require highly transparent and rapidly recoverable adhesives with a certain stiffness. In this study, novel structured adhesives are developed that incorporate bicontinuous nanodomains to fabricate flexible adhesives with low moduli.

The concept of the metaorganism describes a multicellular host and its diverse microbial community, which form one biological unit with a combined genetic repertoire that significantly influences health and survival of the host. The present study delved into the emerging field of bacteriophage research within metaorganisms, focusing on the moon jellyfish as a model organism. The previously isolated phage BSwM KMM1 and phages BSwM KMM2 - KMM4 demonstrated potent infectivity on bacteria present in the -associated microbiota.

β-cyclocitral (BCC) is an odorous compound that can be produced by bloom-forming cyanobacteria, for example, Microcystis aeruginosa. BCC has been proposed to explain the rapid decline of cyanobacterial blooms in natural water bodies due to its lytic effects on cyanobacteria cells. However, few insights have been gained regarding the mechanisms of its lethality on cyanobacteria.
