An unprecedented divergent outcome transformation of alkyne tethered N-sulfonyl hydrazones is reported, which provides a direct and effective access to 4-methyl 2H-chromene derivatives and spiro-4H-pyrazoles in the presence of copper catalyst or under thermal conditions, respectively. The notable features of this process include readily available starting materials, an inexpensive copper catalyst, mild reaction conditions, broad substrate scope, diverse transformations and potential applications of these generated products. Mechanistic studies indicate that the 3H-pyrazole, which is generated via direct [3+2] cycloaddition, is the communal key intermediate of these two divergent transformations. To the best of our knowledge, this is the only example of sulfonation reaction that goes through a cascade process involving 3H-pyrazole, which was isolated and confirmed by single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis for the first time.

Electrochemical glycerol oxidation reaction (GOR) presents a promising approach for converting excess glycerol (GLY) into high-value-added products. However, the complex mechanism and the challenge of achieving selectivity for diverse products make GOR difficult to address in both experimental and theoretical studies. In this work, three nitrogen-doped graphene-supported copper single-atom catalysts (CuN@Gra SACs, x = 2-4) were selected as the model system due to their simple structure, excellent conductivity and high structural stability.

Porous nanomaterials find wide-ranging applications in modern medicine, optoelectronics, and catalysis, playing a key role in today's effort to build an electrified, sustainable future. Accurate in situ quantification of their structural and surface properties is required to model their performance and improve their design. In this article, we demonstrate how to assess the porosity, surface area and utilization of a model nanoporous soft-landed copper oxide catalyst layer/carbon interface, which is otherwise difficult to resolve using physisorption or capacitance-based methods.

Herein, we present a highly efficient allylic substitution of carbonates with Grignard reagents using a reusable cellulose-supported nanocopper catalyst. This approach highlights the first instance of heterogeneous catalysis for the cross-coupling of allylic alcohol substrates with Grignard reagents. The method features high yields, excellent regioselectivity, and complete chirality transfer.

The hydrogenation of carbon dioxide into profitable chemicals is a viable path toward achieving the objective of carbon neutrality. However, the typical approach for hydrogenation of CO heavily relies on thermally driven catalysis at high temperatures, which is not aligned with the goals of carbon neutrality. Thus, there is a critical need to explore new catalytic methods for the high-efficiency conversion of CO.
