CdSe/ZnS quantum-dot-converted elements (QDCEs) are good candidates for substituting rare-earth phosphor-converted elements (PCEs) in white light-emitting diodes (LEDs); however, studies on their scattering and absorption properties are scarce, suppressing further increment in the optical and thermal performance of quantum-dot-converted LEDs. Therefore, we introduce the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method to achieve the critical optical parameters of QDCEs when used in white LEDs; their scattering cross-section (coefficient), absorption cross-section (coefficient), and scattering phase distributions are presented and compared with those of traditional YAG phosphor-converted elements (PCEs) at varying particle size and concentration. At a commonly used concentration ( < 50 mg / cm 3 ), QDCEs exhibit stronger absorption (tens of millimeters, even for green-to-red-wavelength light) and weaker scattering ( < 1 mm - 1 ) compared to PCEs; the reabsorption, total internal reflection, angular uniformity, and thermal quenching would be more significant concerns for QDCEs. Therefore, the unique scattering and absorption properties of QDCEs should be considered when used in white LEDs. Furthermore, knowledge of these important optical parameters is helpful for beginning a theoretical study on quantum-dot-converted LEDs according to the ray tracing method.

In the present work, the influence of the addition of graphene nanoplatelets presenting different dimensions on polyurethane-polyisocyanurate aerogel structure and properties has been studied. The obtained aerogels synthesized through a sol-gel method have been fully characterized in terms of density, porosity, specific surface area, mechanical stiffness, thermal conductivity, and speed of sound. Opacified aerogels showing high porosity (>92%) and low densities (78-98 kg/m) have been produced, and the effect of the size and content of graphene nanoplatelets has been studied.

Significance: Accurate values of skin optical properties are essential for developing reliable computational models and optimizing optical imaging systems. However, published values show a large variability due to a variety of factors, including differences in sample collection, preparation, experimental methodology, and analysis.

Aim: We aim to explore the influence of storage conditions on the optical properties of the excised skin from 400 to 1100 nm.

Light-matter interaction has been profoundly studied for sample material classification. However, the optical classification of the sample through the polarized light-matter interaction remains underexplored. It is limited to the measurement of intensity instead of the angle of polarized light (AOP) for its degree of polarization.

Proposed Optical Manipulation of Nanoparticles to Access and Select Emission Lines.

Optical manipulation of nanomaterials using light resonant with material excitations holds promise for enhancing optical forces and sorting particles by unique quantum properties. Conventional resonant optical sorting mainly relies on absorption and scattering forces, making it difficult to sort nanomaterials by specific emission lines. Furthermore, emission typically induces negligible force unless the material is highly anisotropic, limiting selective manipulation via emission characteristics.

The physical picture for photocurrent injection and coherent control in intrinsic graphene under two-color laser excitation remains obscure. Previously, photocurrent injection of intrinsic graphene was attributed to the quantum interference between two electronic transition pathways of single-photon and two-photon absorptions as well as layer-to-layer coupling. Here, we show that quantum interference between stimulated electronic Raman scattering and single-photon absorption plays a very important role in contributing to the total photocurrent, while interlayer coupling does not sufficiently affect the photocurrent injection, which is in contrast to the previous interpretation of the experimental results on photocurrent injection and coherent control.
