We aimed to prospectively assess changes in chronic stress among young adults transitioning from high school to university or working life. A population-based cohort in Munich and Dresden (Germany) was followed from age 16-18 (2002-2003) to age 20-23 (2007-2009) ( = 1688). Using the Trier Inventory for the Assessment of Chronic Stress, two dimensions of stress at university or work were assessed: work overload and work discontent. In the multiple ordinal generalized estimating equations, socio-demographics, stress outside the workplace, and job history were additionally considered. At follow-up, 52% of the population were university students. Work overload increased statistically significantly from first to second follow-up, while work discontent remained constant at the population level. Students, compared to employees, reported a larger increase in work overload (adjusted odds ratio (OR): 1.33; 95% confidence interval (95% CI): 1.07, 1.67), while work discontent did not differ between the groups. In conclusion, work overload increases when young adults transition from school to university/job life, with university students experiencing the largest increase.

Hereditary hemochromatosis occurs due to genetic mutations, namely, cysteine-to-tyrosine substitution at amino acid 282 (C282Y) and histidine-to-aspartic acid substitution at 63 (H63D) mutations. The role of H63D mutation in hemochromatosis is less clear, and its penetrance is low even in homozygotes. Therefore, iron overload in H63D heterozygotes is extremely rare and scarcely reported.

The application of a multimodal combination therapy based on a targeted nanodelivery system has been demonstrated to be more valuable in the treatment of cancer. In this work, a hollow polydopamine delivery system (CCC@HP@M) was designed to achieve sonodynamic and calcium-overload combined therapy for colon cancer. The CCC@HP@M exhibits both homologous tumour-targeting ability and pH-responsive drug release properties, enabling the simultaneous targeted delivery of CaO nanoparticles/sonosensitizer Ce6/autophagy inhibitor CQ.

The nonenergy-producing or biomass-accumulating functions of metabolism are attracting increasing attention, as metabolic changes are gaining importance as discrete signaling pathways in modulating enzyme activity and gene expression. Substantial evidence suggests that myocardial metabolic remodeling occurring during diabetic cardiomyopathy, heart failure, and cardiac pathological stress (e.g.

Myocardial work (MW) is a new echocardiographic parameter used in the assessment of cardiac energy expenditure. The aim of the current study was to evaluate changes in left ventricular MW parameters in patients with severe aortic stenosis undergoing transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI). One hundred and thirty five consecutive patients who underwent TAVI at one center were evaluated before and after the procedure using transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) to assess the following MW indices: global constructive work (GCW), global wasted work (GWW), global work index (GWI) and global work efficiency (GWE).

Citrus peel essential oils (CPEOs) have demonstrated substantial medicinal potential for glioblastoma treatment because of their extensive antitumor effects, low potential for drug resistance, and ability to cross the human blood-brain barrier. In this study, the chemical compositions of five CPEOs were analyzed via gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). CCK8 assays were used to evaluate the ability of five CPEOs to inhibit U251 human glioblastoma cells, and XLB and RA were selected for further investigation.
