Background: A series of novel N-(2, 6-dimethoxypyrimidin-4-yl)-4-(3-(aryl)thioureido) benzenesulfonamides 3a-t was synthesized by the addition of N-(2,6-dimethoxypyrimidin-4-yl)-4-isothiocyanatobenzenesulfonamide 2 to the appropriate aromatic amine. The structures of the synthesized compounds were inspired from the second line antituberculosis pro-drugs.

Results: Most of the new compounds were screened for their activity against Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The results of the antimycobacterial assay showed that compound 3i exerted the highest activity (MIC = 3.13 µg/mL), followed by compound 3s (MIC = 6.25 µg/mL).

Conclusion: The structure-activity relationship (SAR) analysis revealed that the introduction of the benzo[1,3]dioxol moiety in 3i and the 4-morpholinyl-4-phenyl moiety in 3s has proven to give the most potent compounds in this study. Docking of the promising compounds inside the active site of M. tuberculosis enoyl reductase InhA was performed in order to emphasize the results. The compounds showed a similar orientation to that of GSK 625 inside the active site of 5JFO and bind to Met 98 in a way similar to that of the co-crystallized ligand.

It's bigger on the inside: mapping the black box of motivation.

Behav Brain Sci

Many motivational constructs are opaque "black boxes," and should be replaced by an explicit account of the underlying psychological mechanisms. The theory of motivational systems has begun to provide such an account. I recently contributed to this tradition with a general architecture of motivation, which connects "energization" and "direction" through the goal-setting activity of emotions, and serves as an evolutionary grounded map of motivational processes.

An uncommon and recently identified Müllerian anomaly is the accessory cavitated uterine mass (ACUM). It is distinguished by the presence of a noncommunicating auxiliary cavity inside the uterus, located near and surrounded by uterine smooth muscle, and bordered by functioning endometrium beneath the round ligament's insertion, with a perfectly healthy uterus, ovaries, tubes, and cavity. Given that it is a congenital ailment with a persistent Müllerian duct at the level of the round ligament, primarily resulting from gubernaculum dysfunction, it usually manifests clinically as childhood dysmenorrhea in girls.

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) interventions in interrupting transmission have paid heavy losses politically and economically. The Chinese government has replaced scaling up testing with monitoring focus groups and randomly supervising sampling, encouraging scientific research on the COVID-19 transmission curve to be confirmed by constructing epidemiological models, which include statistical models, computer simulations, mathematical illustrations of the pathogen and its effects, and several other methodologies. Although predicting and forecasting the propagation of COVID-19 are valuable, they nevertheless present an enormous challenge.

Rigid patient motion can cause artifacts in single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) images, compromising the diagnosis and treatment planning. Exponential data consistency conditions (eDCCs) are mathematical equations describing the redundancy of exponential SPECT measurements. It has been recently shown that eDCCs can be used to detect patient motion in SPECT projections.

Drug resistance mechanisms in human pathogenic Candida species are constantly evolving. Over time, these species have developed diverse strategies to counter the effects of various drug classes, making them a significant threat to human health. In addition to well-known mechanisms such as drug target modification, overexpression, and chromosome duplication, Candida species have also developed permeability barriers to antifungal drugs through reduced drug import or increased efflux.
