Antioxidants acts as a defense mechanism that protects against oxidative damage caused by free radicals produced in the body. Medicinal plants are preferably used for various diseases in many countries. The studies were conducted to determine the antioxidant capacity of the ethanolic leaves and fruits extracts of Physalis minima, Withania somnifera, Datura inoxia, Solanum nigrum and Kigelia africana by 1, 1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) free radical scavenging assay. Quercetin was used as a standard antioxidant which shows 93.66% inhibition. Among the five selected plant species, the percentage of antioxidant activity of leaves extracts was found in order: P. minima > W. somnifera > S. nigrum > K. africana > D. inoxia and fruits extracts was in order: W. somnifera ≥ D. inoxia > P. minima > K. africana > S. nigrum respectively.

Background: Studies suggest a potential link between stroke and Alzheimer's disease wherein stroke may serve as a trigger for the onset or acceleration of Alzheimer's pathogenesis as damage to the brain's blood vessels may lead to the accumulation of amyloid beta protein which is a hallmark of Alzheimer's disease. Recent research has shown that stroke treatment may hold the key to treating Alzheimer's disease. The anti-inflammatory potentials of Cholinergic signaling are a novel therapeutic target in memory decline associated with Alzheimer's.

Introduction: Iron oxide nanozyme was synthesized from the fruit peel extract of pomegranate, which served as a reducing agent during the green synthesis. The scavenging of reactive oxygen species is often accompanied by immunomodulation following antiproliferative effects due to the crosstalk between the proteins involved in the inter-related signaling pathways.
Method: In the current study, the green synthesized nanozyme was studied for its ability to induce apoptosis in breast cancer cell lines.

LN18178 is a standardized, synergistic combination of fruit rind and seed extracts, which has been reported to increase serum testosterone levels in young and aging males. The present 84-day randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study assessed the efficacy of LN18178 on the sexual function of aging male volunteers (age: 40-70 years; serum total testosterone: ≥ 300 ng/dL). The subjects with mild to moderate erectile dysfunction [5-item version of the International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF-5) scores 17-25] and low sexual desire (score < 3 on items 11 and 12 of IIEF) participated in this investigation.

Silibinin (Sil) is a major bioactive component of silymarin, extracted from the fruit and seeds of Silybum marianum. Silibinin meglumine (SM) is a water-soluble derivative of silibinin that has shown significant potential in liver fibrosis. However, the potential effects and underlying mechanisms of SM on acute liver failure (ALF) are still not fully understood.

Health benefit effects of bioactive compounds depend on their bioavailabilities, which could vary according to factors including food matrix and digestion environment. To understand the "bioaccessible" health benefit of red pitay pulp, the INFOGEST static in vitro simulation of gastrointestinal (GI) digestion model and targeted metabolomics method were applied to unravel the fates of bioactive compounds in the whole food of red pitaya pulp during GI digestion. The antioxidant activity as one of the health benefit indices was also assessed to compare the changes in bioactive properties of red pitaya pulp.
