Article Abstract
The particle size effect of Pd nanoparticles supported on alumina with various crystalline phases on methane combustion was investigated. Pd/θ, α-Al O with weak metal-support interaction showed a volcano-shaped dependence of the catalytic activity on the size of Pd particles, and the catalytic activity of the strongly interacted Pd/γ-Al O increased with the particle size. Based on a structural analysis of Pd nanoparticles using CO adsorption IR spectroscopy and spherical aberration-corrected scanning/transmission electron microscopy, the dependence of catalytic activity on Pd particle size and the alumina crystalline phase was due to the fraction of step sites on Pd particle surface. The difference in fraction of the step site is derived from the particle shape, which varies not only with Pd particle size but also with the strength of metal-support interaction. Therefore, this interaction perturbs the particle size effect of Pd/Al O for methane combustion.

The potential threat of soil microplastics （MPs, particle sizes smaller than 5 mm） to the agricultural environment and food security production has become a hot issue, but there are few systematic studies on the characteristics and influencing factors of MP pollution in agricultural soil in China. Based on the data of soil MPs and related environmental factors （temperature, precipitation, soil pH, and organic carbon） and social and economic factors （permanent population, gross regional product per capita, gross industrial product per capita, and cultivated land area per capita） extracted from 6 694 samples from 85 published studies from 2020 to 2023, meta-analysis was performed. The characteristics of MPs pollution in agricultural soil and the key factors affecting the accumulation of MPs in soil in six administrative regions of China were analyzed.

Slow oxidation of coal during storage and transportation poses significant risks, making it essential to identify hot spots and understand the heat generation and gas production patterns in coal stockpiles. This study leverages the advantages of adiabatic oxidation experiments, which account for time effects, to accurately describe the low-temperature oxidation process of coal through warming and gas production dimensions. This study investigated the effects of formulation and ultrasound on the processing properties and nutrient digestion of soy protein isolate (SPI)-egg white protein (EWP) emulsion gels. The incorporation of EWP significantly improved the texture properties and freeze-thaw stability through disulfide bonds and homogeneous networks in comparison to SPI emulsion gels. However, swelling ratio of emulsion gels at SPI:EWP ratios of 3:1 and 2:1 decreased due to disruption of SPI network continuity.
