Propylene glycol (PG), an emollient and emulsifier found in cosmetics, medications, and food, has been granted the dubious honor of being named the American Contact Dermatitis Society's Allergen of the Year for 2018. Contact, systemic, and irritant cutaneous reactions have been documented for PG, which has become an increasingly common ingredient. Propylene glycol is as contentious as it is ubiquitous because it acts as both a weak sensitizer and an irritant, confounding the results of positive patch tests. This review serves to delve into what we know about PG from previous reports and studies so that providers will have a better understanding of PG contact dermatitis.

Ternary copper halides with an eco-friendly property have emerged as attractive candidates to replace toxic lead-containing perovskites for light-emitting diodes (LEDs), yet achieving long-wavelength electroluminescence remains unexplored. Herein, we report the first realization of orange-emitting LEDs (595 nm) based on nontoxic organic-inorganic PEACuI (PEA = β-phenylethylamine) films enabled by a nonionic surfactant poly(propylene glycol) bis(2-aminopropyl ether) (APPG) chemisorption. Experimental and theoretical analyses rationalize that the APPG additive has strong chemisorption with the Cu-I framework within the grain boundaries of PEACuI films, which not only improves the film's morphology but also passivates the iodine vacancy defects.

The toxicity of electronic cigarette (EC) aerosol is influenced not only by the type of e-liquid but also by various operational parameters of the device used to vaporize it. In this study, we utilized a flask and heating mantle system, instead of a conventional EC device, to systematically evaluate the effects of EC device operational parameters, including vaporization temperature, airflow rate, and the materials of coils and wicks, on the generated mass of EC aerosol and the production of toxic carbonyl compounds. The results demonstrated that these parameters significantly impact aerosol mass and toxicant composition.

The study focuses on the development of an in situ gelling dexamethasone (DEX) oromucosal formulation designed for the treatment of aphthous stomatitis. Three series of formulations were prepared; a first series containing DEX suspended, a second series containing DEX and, in addition, mint essential oil (EO), and a third series containing EO and DEX solubilized in propylene glycol (PG). In the composition, polymers in the role of mucoadhesive agent were interchanged (hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC), hydroxypropyl cellulose (HPC), hydroxyethyl cellulose (HEC), methyl cellulose (MC), carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC), and sodium carboxymethyl cellulose (NaCMC).
