Published: December 2017

The data presented here are related to the research article entitled "Generation of nitric oxide by olive ( L.) pollen during germination and assessment of the -nitroso- and nitro-proteomes by computational predictive methods" doi:10.1016/j.niox.2017.06.005 (Jimenez-Quesada et al., 2017) [1]. Predicted cysteine -nitrosylation and Tyr-nitration sites in proteins derived from a assembled and annotated pollen transcriptome from olive tree ( L.) were obtained after using well-established predictive tools . Predictions were performed using both default and highly restrictive thresholds. Numerous gene products identified with these characteristics are listed here. An experimental validation of the data, consisting in nano-LC-MS (Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry) determination of olive pollen proteins after immunoprecipitation with antibodies to anti--nitrosoCys and anti-3-NT (NitroTyrosine) allowed identification of numerous proteins subjected to these two post-translational modifications, which are listed here together with information regarding their cross-presence among the predictions.

While UV-B radiation is beneficial to plant growth, it can also cause adverse effects. The pollen tube, a key component of plant reproduction with a tip growth mechanism, is an excellent cellular model for understanding how environmental stressors such as UV-B radiation affect plant cell growth. This research investigated the effect of UV-B on olive pollen both before and after germination.

Allergic Rhinitis in Israel: A Multicenter Study of Allergic Rhinitis Across Three Climate Zones.

Isr Med Assoc J

November 2024

Allergy and Immunology Unit, Shaare Zedek Medical Center, Jerusalem, Israel, Faculty of Medicine, Hadassah-Hebrew University School of Medicine, Jerusalem, Israel.

Article Synopsis
  • Allergic rhinitis (AR) affects 5% to 50% of the population worldwide, but specific studies on sensitization in Israeli patients have been limited.* -
  • A study of 1,308 AR patients in Israel revealed an 86% overall positive skin prick test rate, with indoor allergens affecting 76% of participants; the most common allergens identified were mites, olive tree pollen, grass pollen, and cat dander.* -
  • The findings can help allergists customize skin prick test panels and improve immunotherapy by focusing on the most prevalent aeroallergens in different climate zones.*

Enhanced pollen tube performance at high temperature contributes to thermotolerant fruit and seed production in tomato.

Rising temperature extremes during critical reproductive periods threaten the yield of major grain and fruit crops. Flowering plant reproduction depends on the ability of pollen grains to generate a pollen tube, which elongates through the pistil to deliver sperm cells to female gametes for double fertilization. We used tomato as a model fruit crop to determine how high temperature affects the pollen tube growth phase, taking advantage of cultivars noted for fruit production in exceptionally hot growing seasons.

Background: The Peruvian Immunoblot panel, together with traditional skin prick tests (SPT), are widely used in vitro allergy tests in Peru. In addition to this, Peruvian allergists are increasingly adopting multiplex tests such as the ALEX-2 (Macro Array Diagnostics). Previous studies have revealed limited agreement between Immunoblot and SPT results.

Article Synopsis
  • The study explores the potential of the Basophil Activation Test (BAT) as a replacement for the Nasal Allergen Challenge (NAC) in diagnosing different types of rhinitis due to allergies.
  • It involved testing rhinitis patients with various allergens and analyzing the results of BAT alongside traditional skin prick tests to categorize patients into allergic and non-allergic phenotypes.
  • Findings suggest BAT has a high ability to confirm allergic rhinitis, especially in patients with positive skin prick tests, while also identifying cases of allergy in patients who test negative on skin prick tests.
