It has been proposed that elemanes are biogenetically formed from germacranes by Cope sigmatropic rearrangements. Normally, this reaction proceeds through a transition state with a chair conformation. However, the transformation of schkuhriolide (germacrane) into elemanschkuhriolide (elemane) may occur through a boat transition state due to the final configuration of the elemanschkuhriolide, but this transition state is questionable due to its high energy. The possible mechanisms of this transformation were studied in the density functional theory frame. The mechanistic differences between the transformation of ()-germacranes and ()-germacranes were also studied. We found that ()-germacranolides are significantly more stable than ()-germacranolides and elemanolides. In the specific case of schkuhriolide, even when the boat transition state is not energetically favored, a previous hemiacetalization lowers enough the energetic barrier to allow the formation of a very stable elemanolide that is even more stable than its ()-germacrane.

Vitrimers are sustainable cross-linked polymers characterized by an associative bond exchange mechanism within their network. A well-known feature of vitrimers is the Arrhenius dependence of the viscosity or relaxation time. Another important aspect is the existence of a topology-freezing temperature (), which represents a transition between the viscoelastic solid state and the malleable viscoelastic liquid state.

Colombia currently hosts nearly three million Venezuelan refugees and migrants and is home to seven million internally displaced Colombians. For forcibly displaced populations in Colombia, and especially for women, gender-based violence (GBV) poses a threat during transit and in their new homes where xenophobia, lack of accessible and adequate services, limited safe economic opportunities, and lack of information on access to services, further increase risk. The dearth of livelihood opportunities also affects forcibly displaced populations, especially women.

We analyzed the intrinsic strength of distal and proximal FeN bonds and the stiffness of the axial NFeN bond angle in a series of cytochrome b5 proteins isolated from various species, including bacteria, animals, and humans. Ferric and ferrous oxidation states were considered. As assess- ment tool, we employed local vibrational stretching force constants ka(FeN) and bending force constants ka(NFeN) derived from our local mode theory.

The aging population necessitates a critical need for medical devices, where polymers-based surface lubrication coating is essential for optimal functionality. In fact, lubrication and mechanical requirements vary depending on the service environment of different medical devices. Until now, key mean is still blank for general preparation of hydrophilic polymers-based lubrication coatings with on-demand mechanics and lubricity.
