In the nematode family Criconematidae, a taxonomy primarily based on cuticle characters has created classifications that are notoriously volatile. Molecular characters may lead to their stabilization. A phylogenetic tree of Criconematoidea was constructed using 166 new near full-length 18S rDNA sequences and 58 sequences from GenBank. Bayesian and maximum likelihood (ML) analyses produced trees with similar topologies. Major features include a strongly supported clade that includes Criconematidae and Hemicycliophoridae, excluding Paratylenchidae and Tylenchulidae. Another well-supported clade groups , , , and plus , combining nematodes with cuticular scales with those without scales at any life stage. , , , and are recognized as monophyletic groups, but is paraphyletic. Both trees support an unexpected sister relationship between and . The 18S rDNA dataset was insufficient for distinguishing genus boundaries between , , and . The relationships depicted by the 18S rDNA phylogeny suggest that key morphological characters used in the classification of Criconematidae are not homologous.

This study aimed to standardize qPCR techniques using these molecular markers kDNA and 18S rDNA across three sample types: peripheral blood, guanidine-treated blood, and tissue. The secondary objective is to evaluate the performance of 18S rDNA target in samples from 46 patients with confirmed tegumentary leishmaniasis. After obtaining the standard curve from reference strains with Leishmania, qPCR curves were standardizations and the Cts results of the patient samples were described using abstract measures.

Yeast strains representing a novel asexual ascomycetous species were isolated from seven flowers. Sequencing of the chromosomal regions coding for the D1/D2 domains of the large subunit ribosomal RNA, the ITS1-5.8S-ITS2 segments and parts of the gene coding for the small subunit ribosomal RNA showed that the isolates were conspecific.

Purpose: The objective of the study was to establish the prevalence of Sarcocystis (Apicomplexa, Sarcocystidae) in brown rats from Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh, Kuwait, and to describe detected parasites using morphological and DNA analysis methods.
Methods: Ninety-eight brown rats (Rattus norvegicus) were examined for Sarcocystis spp. Obtained sarcocysts were investigated using light microscopy and electron microscopy.
