Objective: To explore if renal dysfunction in terms of estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) can be considered a risk factor for stroke outcomes.
Methods: The study population consisted of adults diagnosed with acute stroke admitted to the King Abdulaziz Medical City, Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia between 2012 and 2015. Data was collected by chart review. The Modification of Diet in Renal Disease equation was used to estimate GFR. Patients were classified into 2 eGFR categories: eGFR more than 60 (normal) and eGFR less than or equal 60 (low).
Results: A total of 727 patients were studied of whom 596 (82%) had normal eGFR and 131 (18%) had low eGFR. There were more males (68.5%). Ischemic strokes were more prevalent (87.2%). Urinary tract infections were more likely to occur in the low eGFR group (OR=2.047, 95% CI=1.024 - 4.093). They were also significantly more likely to die during admission (OR=3.772, 95% CI=1.609-8.844). There was a statistically significant degree of disability reflected by higher mRS (p=0.010) as well as higher post-stroke National Institute of Health Stroke Score scores in the low eGFR group (p=0.011).
Conclusion: Estimated glomerular filtration rate is a possible predictor of stroke severity, disability and mortality.

Epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) is amongst the earliest targeted kinases by small-molecule inhibitors for the management of EGFR-positive cancer types. While a few inhibitors are granted FDA approval for clinical use, discovery of new inhibitors is still of merit to enhance ligand-binding stability and subsequent enzyme inhibition. Thus, a structure-based design approach was adopted to devise a new series of twenty-nine N3-substituted quinazolin-4-ones as type I ATP-competitive inhibitors targeting the deep hydrophobic pocket of EGFR.

To date, 46,000 tyrosines have been observed in human proteins, but relatively little is known about the function and regulation of most of these sites. A major challenge has been producing recombinant phospho-proteins in order to test the effects of phosphorylation.

CAR-T cell therapy has been proven to be effective on hematological tumors, although graft-versus-host disease and cytokine release syndrome(CRS) limit its application to a certain extent. However, CAR-T therapy for solid tumors met challenges, among which the lack of tumor-specific antigens (TSA) and immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment (TME) are the most important factors. CAR-NK could be a good alternative to CAR-T in some ways since they can induce mild CRS and are independent of HLA-matching, but the efficacy of CAR-NKs remains limited in solid tumors.

Peritoneal dissemination frequently develops in patients with ovarian cancer (OC) and is associated with recurrence and metastasis. However, the cellular components and mechanisms supporting OC peritoneal metastasis are poorly understood. To elucidate these, we utilized RNA sequencing to investigate the cellular composition and function.

Mutations that overexpress the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) are linked to cancers like breast (15-20%), head and neck (10-15%), colorectal (5-8%), and non-small cell lung cancer (10-50%), especially in East Asian populations. EGFR activation stimulates "RAS/RAF/MEK/ERK, PI3K/Akt, and MAPK" pathways, which enhance cell division, survival, angiogenesis, and tumor growth while inhibiting apoptosis and metastasis. Secondary mutations (e.
