ESA's Swarm constellation mission makes it possible for the first time to determine field-aligned currents (FACs) in the ionosphere uniquely. In particular at high latitudes, the dual-satellite approach can reliably detect some FAC structures which are missed by the traditional single-satellite technique. These FAC events occur preferentially poleward of the auroral oval and during times of northward interplanetary magnetic field (IMF) orientation. Most events appear on the nightside. They are not related to the typical FAC structures poleward of the cusp, commonly termed NBZ. Simultaneously observed precipitating particle spectrograms and auroral images from Defense Meteorological Satellite Program (DMSP) satellites are consistent with the detected FACs and indicate that they occur on closed field lines mostly adjacent to the auroral oval. We suggest that the FACs are associated with Sun-aligned filamentary auroral arcs. Here we introduce in an initial study features of the high-latitude FAC structures which have been observed during the early phase of the Swarm mission. A more systematic survey over longer times is required to fully characterize the so far undetected field aligned currents.

Distortions in the porphyrin core from planarity can trigger a unique structure-property relationship, imparting its basicity, chemical stability, redox potential, and excited-state energetics, among other properties. The colour change promoted by such distortion is signed by red shifts in its electronic absorption spectra. The adsorption of guest -substituted free-base porphyrin species onto inorganic hosts, such as clay minerals (layered aluminium or magnesium silicates), is known to further promote colour changes.

The cytotoxicity of four rhenium compounds: fac-[ReO(impy)CH] (1) (impy = 2-(1H-imidazole-2-yl)pyridine), fac-[Re(CO)(bzimpy)Cl] (2) (bzimpy = 2-(2-pyridyl)benzimidazole), fac-[Re(CO)(bibzimpy)Cl] (3) (bibzimpy = 2,6-bis(2-benzimidazolyl)pyridine) and fac-[Re(CO)(impy)Cl] (4) was assessed against cancer cell lines, namely, the cervical hormone-responsive HeLa and the triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) HCC70 lines versus a non-tumorigenic control breast epithelial cell line, MCF12A. A rare facial trioxorhenium(VII) compound 1 was characterized via various physicochemical techniques. The rhenium compounds 1-4 were, in general, more cytotoxic to HeLa cells, compared to the TNBC HCC70 line, displaying half maximal inhibitory concentration (IC) values in the micromolar range, however, the compounds were not convincingly selective for cancer cells over non-cancerous cells.
