Generation of Multiple-Depth 3D Computer-Generated Holograms from 2D-Image-Datasets Trained CNN.

Adv Sci (Weinh)

December 2024

Department of Information Communication, Army Academy of Armored Forces, Beijing, 100072, China.

Generating computer-generated holograms (CGHs) for 3D scenes by learning-based methods can reconstruct arbitrary 3D scenes with higher quality and faster speed. However, the homogenization and difficulty of obtaining 3D high-resolution datasets seriously limit the generalization ability of the model. A novel approach is proposed to train 3D encoding models based on convolutional neural networks (CNNs) using 2D image datasets.

We present the first controlled-environment measurements of the optical path-length change response of telecommunication submarine cables to active seismic and acoustic waves. We perform the comparison among integrated (optical interferometry) and distributed (distributed acoustic sensing, DAS) fibre measurements and ground truth data acquired by 58 geophones, 20 three-axis seismometers and 7 microphones. The comparison between different seismic acquisition methods is an essential step towards full validation and calibration of the data acquired using novel cable-based sensing techniques.

Comparative architecture of the tessellated boxfish (Ostracioidea) carapace.

Commun Biol

November 2024

Institut für Biologie, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Vergleichende Zoologie, Philippstraße 13, 10115, Berlin, Germany.

Tessellations (surface architectures of arrays of hard tiles) are common in natural and man-made designs. Boxfishes (Ostracioidea) are almost completely encased in a tessellated armor and have evolved a plethora of cross-sectional carapace shapes, yet whether the scutes constructing these exhibit comparable variation is unknown. Using high-resolution microCT and semi-automatic segmentation algorithms, we quantitatively examined thousands of scutes from 13 species of diverse body form.

Chitons possess the most elaborate system of shell pores found in any hard-shelled invertebrate. Although chitons possess some anteriorly located sense organs, they lack true cephalization, as their major sensory systems are not concentrated in a distinct head region. Instead, the aesthete system within their shells forms a dense sensory network that overcomes the barrier of their hard dorsal armour.

Particle-Solid Transition Architecture for Efficient Passive Building Cooling.

ACS Nano

October 2024

Key Laboratory for Resilient Infrastructures of Coastal Cities (MOE), College of Civil and Transportation Engineering, Shenzhen University, Shenzhen 518060, China.

Electricity consumption for building cooling accounts for a significant portion of global energy usage and carbon emissions. To address this challenge, passive daytime radiative cooling (PDRC) has emerged as a promising technique for cooling buildings without electricity input. However, existing radiative coolers face material mismatch issues, particularly on cementitious composites like concrete, limiting their practical application.
