Background: Direct carotid-cavernous fistulas (CCFs) are relatively rare but dangerous complications of penetrating traumatic brain injury or maxillofacial trauma. A variety of clinical signs have been described, including ophthalmological and neurological ones. In some cases, severely altered cerebral blood flow can present as massive life-threatening bleeding through the nose, subarachnoid hemorrhage, and/or intraparenchymal hemorrhage.

Materials And Methods: Patients with iliofemoral obstructive venous disease and treated with venous stents were retrospectively enrolled in a physician-led real-world data collection effort. Results were analyzed by etiologies: post-thrombotic syndrome (PTS), non-thrombotic iliac vein lesion (NIVL), and iliocaval acute deep vein thrombosis (aDVT).

Background: The circadian rhythm of myocardial infarction (MI) in patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) remains disputable and no studies have directly evaluated the relationship between nocturnal hypoxemia and the circadian rhythm of MI. The aim of the current study was to evaluate the association of OSA and nocturnal hypoxemia with MI onset during the night.
Methods: Patients with MI in the OSA-acute coronary syndrome (ACS) project (NCT03362385) were recruited.

Background: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) affects breathing, speech production, and coughing. We evaluated a machine learning analysis of speech for classifying the disease severity of COPD.
Methods: In this single centre study, non-consecutive COPD patients were prospectively recruited for comparing their speech characteristics during and after an acute COPD exacerbation.

Background: This study aims to investigate the association between vitamin D levels and the risk of severe acute exacerbations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (AECOPD).
Methods: We conducted a prospective observational study with 636 COPD patients admitted for exacerbations between January 2021 and December 2022. Patients were categorized based on serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D levels: severe deficiency (<10 ng/mL), deficiency (10-20 ng/mL), insufficiency (20-30 ng/mL), or sufficiency (>30 ng/mL).
