Evolution leads to considerable changes in the sequence of biomolecules, while their overall structure and function remain quite conserved. The wealth of genomic sequences, the 'Biological Big Data', modern sequencing techniques provide allows us to investigate biomolecular evolution with unprecedented detail. Sophisticated statistical models can infer residue pair mutations resulting from spatial proximity. The introduction of predicted spatial adjacencies as constraints in biomolecular structure prediction workflows has transformed the field of protein and RNA structure prediction toward accuracies approaching the experimental resolution limit. Going beyond structure prediction, the same mathematical framework allows mimicking evolutionary fitness landscapes to infer signaling interactions, epistasis, or mutational landscapes.

In 2018, Portuguese researchers proposed the "Tool for Quality Assessment of Genetic Counseling," a 5-point Likert scale comprising 50 items across five dimensions, designed to assess genetic counseling from the professional's perspective. This descriptive, cross-sectional study aimed to adapt this tool to Brazilian Portuguese, validate it among Brazilian clinical geneticists, and conduct a preliminary assessment of the quality of genetic counseling in Brazil. The adaptation process involved expert-driven content validation and calculation of the Content Validity Index (CVI) to ensure equivalence between the original and adapted versions.

Characterising patterns of genetic diversity including evidence of local adaptation is relevant for predicting and managing species recovering from overexploitation in the face of climate change. Red abalone (Haliotis rufescens) is a species of conservation concern due to recent declines from overharvesting, disease and climate change, resulting in the closure of commercial and recreational fisheries. Using whole-genome resequencing data from 23 populations spanning their entire range (southern Oregon, USA, to Baja California, MEX) we investigated patterns of population connectivity and genotype-environment associations that would reveal local adaptation across the mosaic of coastal environments that define the California Current System (CCS).

Antibodies targeting either the calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP), such as galcanezumab, fremanezumab, and eptinezumab, or the receptor (erenumab) have been approved for the prevention of episodic and chronic migraine. Although widely used and generally effective, a proportion of patients discontinue treatment due to lack of efficacy. In both randomized controlled trials and observational studies, all anti-CGRP monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) have consistently demonstrated comparable efficacy and tolerability, suggesting a pharmacological class effect.

Process models are increasingly used to support upstream process development in the biopharmaceutical industry for process optimization, scale-up and to reduce experimental effort. Parametric unstructured models based on biological mechanisms are highly promising, since they do not require large amounts of data. The critical part in the application is the certainty of the parameter estimates, since uncertainty of the parameter estimates propagates to model predictions and can increase the risk associated with those predictions.
