The effects on potency of cruzain inhibition of replacing a nitrile group with alternative warheads were explored. The oxime was almost an order of magnitude more potent than the corresponding nitrile and has the potential to provide access to the prime side of the catalytic site. Dipeptide aldehydes and azadipeptide nitriles were found to be two orders of magnitude more potent cruzain inhibitors than the corresponding dipeptide nitriles although potency differences were modulated by substitution at P1 and P3. Replacement of the α methylene of a dipeptide aldehyde with cyclopropane led to a loss of potency of almost three orders of magnitude. The vinyl esters and amides that were characterized as reversible inhibitors were less potent than the corresponding nitrile by between one and two orders of magnitude.

Thiolated arsenic (As) compounds have been identified in various natural and engineered environments worldwide and are important for the biogeochemical cycling of As, yet quantitative data regarding their stability and transformation rates remains scarce. This study investigates the oxidation kinetics of mono-, di-, and tri-thioarsenate at varying pH, Fe, and (thio-)As concentrations in the aqueous phase. Experiments conducted over four weeks revealed that all thioarsenates were oxidized faster at lower pH, with rates of up to several μmoles/L/d at a pH of 3.

In 2023, European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) published a re-evaluation of the safety of bisphenol A (BPA), establishing the new tolerable daily intake (TDI) as 0.2 ng/kg·bw/day with a 20,000-fold reduction compared to 2015, which regained public concern about the impact of bisphenols (BPs) on human health. In order to explore the health risk to thyroid function of BPs, in this study, we assessed the internal exposure levels of BPs and the relationships between urinary BPs and thyroid function in general adults.

As a zoonotic virus, highly sensitive detection of monkeypox virus is crucial for its prevention and control due to its rapid increase in cases worldwide and the extremely high risk of virus transmission. In this paper, based on the principle of antigen-antibody specific recognition, an ultrasensitive resonance Raman biosensing probe was prepared using a molecule with the bifunctionality of resonance Raman effect and capturing antibody; and with the strong affinity of the biotin-streptavidin (Bio-SA) system, Bio-antibody and SA test strips were prepared. To match the T-line of the test strip, a portable Raman instrument with a strip-shaped spot was designed.

Model-based diagnosis (MBD) is a critical problem in artificial intelligence. Recent advancements have made it possible to address this challenge using methods like deep learning. However, current approaches that use deep learning for MBD often struggle with accuracy and computation time due to the limited diagnostic information provided by a single observation.

In this research, poly(lactic acid) (PLA) nanocomposites with multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) were produced by extrusion, injection, and compression molding, focusing on electromagnetic shielding. Various amounts of carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were tested in PLA matrix, specifically ranging from 1 to 4 parts per hundred resin (phr). The resulting nanocomposites were analyzed before and after undergoing annealing heat treatment.
