Herein, an improved methodology for aryl-cubane cross-coupling is reported. The peculiarities of the cubane core and its behavior during cross-coupling conditions were analyzed, while the versatility of this adapted Baran cross-coupling methodology was demonstrated by the synthesis of various aryl-cubane systems, including coupling products of cubanes and porphyrins. Furthermore, arm extension of alkynyl-cubanes by Sonogashira reactions is demonstrated, showcasing the first proof of the stability of the cubane core in the presence of palladium catalysts.

The coordination compounds featuring a {CuO} core, typically bridged by hydroxo or alkoxo groups, are particularly intriguing due to their notable magnetic properties and catalytic activity. In this study, we explored the synthesis and characterization of four new Schiff base ligands and their subsequent complexation with Cu salts, which resulted in the formation of three tetranuclear complexes: [Cu(L)]·2HO (1), [Cu(L)(HL)](Cl)(NO)·5HO (2), and [Cu(L)] (3), as well as one dinuclear complex: [Cu(L)] (4). These tetranuclear complexes all feature a {CuO} core, but with differing coordination environments around the Cu centers.

Simplified Nomenclature and Projection Diagrams of Chiral Cubane Analogs.

Keck Graduate Institute, School of Pharmacy, 535 Watson Drive, Claremont, California 91711, United States.

A simplified nomenclature for chiral cubane analogs is proposed where analogs with a clockwise systematic continuous numbering of the cubane core are designated as ()-, and analogs with an anticlockwise continuous numbering of the cubane core are designated as ()-. This method is accurate, allows for the rapid conversion of the chemical name to a structure, and it eliminates the need to designate the stereochemistry of each of the 8 carbons of cubane.

A rare all-inorganic high-nuclearity mixed-valent {Mn} cluster embedded polyoxoniobate, KH{(TeNbO)(NbO)(TeNbO)[(TeO)(MnII7MnIII4O)]}·97HO (1), has been synthesized by a one-pot reaction. Compound 1 contains the largest manganese cluster {Mn} core among polyoxoniobates reported to date. {Mn} consists of three quasi-cubane {MnO} units and is simultaneously encapsulated by lacunary α-Keggin {TeNbO} and Lindqvist {NbO} units.

The assemblies of [MO] (M = metal) cubanes represent a fascinating class of materials for a variety of application fields. Although such a structural characteristic is relatively common in small molecules and in extended bulk solids, high nuclearity clusters composed of multiple [MO] units as their backbones are rare. In this work, we report two new Mn-oxo clusters, Mn Mn O(OOCMe)(OMe)(py) ([Mn-Ac]) and Mn Mn O(OOCCMe)(OMe)(MeOH)(py) ([Mn-Piv]), whose core structures are assemblies of either 6- or 7-cubanes in different packing patterns, which have been unambiguously revealed by single crystal X-ray diffraction technique.
