Objective: Parental responses influence children's pain; however, the specific role of parental bonding in pediatric pain has not been examined. Depressive symptomology is frequently reported in children with chronic pain (CP) and may play a role in the relationship between parental bonding and pain. This study examined the connections between maternal/paternal bonding (perceived care and control) and symptoms of pain and depression in adolescents with CP and in healthy adolescents.
Method: Participants included 116 adolescents (aged 12-17) with CP (n = 55) and without (n = 61). Adolescents completed the Parental Bonding Instrument separately for their mother and father, as well as measures of depression and pain.
Results: Significant associations between parental bonding and adolescent pain and depression emerged in the pain group, but not in the healthy group. There were no differences in the impact of maternal versus paternal bonding on adolescent pain and depression. Mediation analyses revealed adolescent depression was a mediator of the relationship between maternal care and adolescent pain, and paternal control and adolescent pain in the group with CP.
Conclusions: This study highlights the importance of considering parental bonding and adolescent depression in pediatric CP, suggesting that high paternal control and low maternal care contribute to increased pain in adolescents through heightened adolescent depressive symptoms. The findings emphasize the need for family-based treatment for CP that addresses parent behaviors and adolescent mental health.

Background: The reduction of maternal mortality has stagnated globally. Estimates project a rise to 140.9 deaths per 100,000 live births by 2030, which is double the Sustainable Development Goal target.

The crystal structure of a glycosyl-ated porphyrin () system, CHNO, where two iso-propyl-idene protected galactose moieties are attached to the position of a substituted tetra-aryl porphyrin is reported. This structure reveals that the parent porphyrin is planar, with the galactose moieties positioned above and below the porphyrin macrocycle. This orientation likely prevents porphyrin-porphyrin H-type aggregation, potentially enhancing its efficiency as a photosensitizer in photodynamic therapy.

Purpose: Negative parenting styles, peer victimization, and mobile phone dependence (MPD) are prevalent public health problems among adolescents. Parenting styles and peer victimization were reported to affect MPD, but their interaction and the mechanism underlying this association still need to be explored. This study aimed to examine how these factors affect MPD in adolescents with depression.

Background: The parenting of children by deaf parents has many challenges that require a barrier-breaking approach to ensure inclusivity and accessibility. Therefore, this study explored pathways for crafting inclusive parenting programs, fostering a future where every family thrives, regardless of hearing ability.
Methods: This was a qualitative study that employed in-depth interviews with 20 deaf parents and utilized thematic content analysis.

Oxygenated polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (OPAHs) are a class of emerging environmental contaminants that exhibit high toxicity compared to parent PAHs. In addition to carcinogenic, teratogenic and mutagenic effects, recent studies show their potential to cause endocrine disruption, but the reports are controversial. In this study, we employed hormone receptors (ERα/AR/GRα/TRβ)-mediated dual luciferase reporter gene assay and molecular docking, and found that five typical OPAHs exhibited agonistic activity towards hormone receptors, and hydrogen bonding and hydrophobic interactions were the primary binding forces involved in OPAHs-receptor interactions.
