In this paper, we address the design of a minimum variance controller (MVC) for the mitigation of vibrations in modern telescope adaptive optics (AO) systems. It is widely accepted that a main source of non-turbulent perturbations is the mechanical resonance induced by the wind or the instrumentation systems, such as fans and cooling pumps. To adequately mitigate vibrations, the application of frequency-based controllers has been considered in the past decade. In this work, we express the system model in terms of the tracking of a zero-input signal via the MVC. We show that the MVC is an equivalent representation of the linear quadratic Gaussian (LQG) controller for the AO system. We also show that by developing the MVC, we can obtain different expressions, in terms of transfer functions, that offer insights into the behavior and expected performance of the controller in the frequency domain. In addition, we analyze the impact of the accuracy of the system and perturbations model on the mitigation of vibrations.

This paper focuses on the theoretical and analytical modeling of a novel seismic isolator termed the Passive Friction Mechanical Metamaterial Seismic Isolator (PFSMBI) system, which is designed for seismic hazard mitigation in multi-story buildings. The PFSMBI system consists of a lattice structure composed of a series of identical small cells interconnected by layers made of viscoelastic materials. The main function of the lattice is to shift the fundamental natural frequency of the building away from the dominant frequency of earthquake excitations by creating low-frequency bandgaps (FBGs) below 20 Hz.

This study presents a novel rod-cable hybrid planar cable-driven parallel robot inspired by the biological synergy of bones and muscles. The design integrates rigid rods and flexible cables to enhance structural stability and precision in motion control. The rods emulate bones, providing foundational support, while the cables mimic muscles, driving motion through coordinated tension.

: Whole body vibration (WBV) is a valuable tool to mitigate physiological adaptations related to age and inactivity. Although significant benefits have been found at the musculoskeletal level, including increased bone mass and reduced muscle atrophy, the underlying biological mechanisms remain largely unknown. Therefore, our study aimed to evaluate the effects of vibratory training on bone tissue in murine models of different age groups by investigating the structural and distribution changes in some crucial biomarkers involved in musculoskeletal homeostasis.

This study considers Timoshenko beam theory and the isogeometric analysis method to investigate the free vibration and buckling of axially functionally graded (AFG) tapered beams. The governing equations are obtained from the kinematic assumptions of Timoshenko beam theory and Hamilton's principle. The isogeometric analysis approach is implemented to solve the motion equations.

Introduction: Whole body vibration (WBV) is thought to be associated with low back pain (LBP). To mitigate against this the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) have created the ISO 2631 standard, recommending safe dose limits. The aim of this research is to conduct a systematic review of available literature addressing the question, is WBV associated with LBP?
Methods: A literature search was performed from January 1970 until April 2022, including studies focusing on LBP and sciatica in association with WBV, looking specifically for ones reporting on military populations.
