A molecular probe for the PT-operon of B. pertussis hybridized with 4.7 Kb EcoRI-fragments of chromosomal DNAs of B. pertussis strain 475 phase I, phase IV, B. parapertussis strains 504 and 17903, B. bronchiseptica strain 214, B. parapertussis strain 17903-convertant of B. pertussis phage 134 but not with phage 134 DNA under stringent conditions of DNA-DNA hybridization. This fact indicates the presence of PT-genes in all Bordetella species. Since there is no production of PT in B. parapertussis and B. bronchiseptica, a presence of regulatory mutations in the PT-operon or absence of the functionally active vir-gene product in these species is suggested.

The 134-residue phage L decoration protein (Dec) forms a capsid-stabilizing homotrimer that has an asymmetric tripod-like structure when bound to phage L capsids. The N-termini of the trimer subunits consist of spatially separated globular OB-fold domains that interact with the virions of phage L or the related phage P22. The C-termini of the trimer form a three-stranded intertwined spike structure that accounts for nearly all the interactions that stabilize the trimer.

Background: Understanding the interactions and dynamics of microbiotas within biological wastewater treatment systems is essential for ensuring their stability and long-term sustainability. In this study, we developed a systematic framework employing multi-omics and Hi-C sequencing to extensively investigate prokaryotic and phage communities within a hybrid biofilm and activated sludge system.
Results: We uncovered distinct distribution patterns, metabolic capabilities, and activities of functional prokaryotes through the analysis of 454 reconstructed prokaryotic genomes.

Anthrax is an acute infectious zoonotic disease caused by Bacillus anthracis, a bacterium that is considered a potential biological warfare agent. Bacillus bacteriophages shape the composition and evolution of bacterial communities in nature and therefore have important roles in the ecosystem community. B.
