In this work we study the impact of ion implantation on the nonlinear optical properties in MgO:LiNbO via confocal second-harmonic microscopy. In detail, we spatially characterize the nonlinear susceptibility in carbon-ion implanted lithium niobate planar waveguides for different implantation energies and fluences, as well as the effect of annealing. In a further step, a computational simulation is used to calculate the implantation range of carbon-ions and the corresponding defect density distribution. A comparison between the simulation and the experimental data indicates that the depth profile of the second-order effective nonlinear coefficient is directly connected to the defect density that is induced by the ion irradiation. Furthermore it can be demonstrated that the annealing treatment partially recovers the second-order optical susceptibility.

Bone transplantation ranks second worldwide among tissue prosthesis surgeries. Currently, one of the most promising approaches is regenerative medicine, which involves tissue engineering based on polymer scaffolds with biodegradable properties. Once implanted, scaffolds interact directly with the surrounding tissues and in a fairly aggressive environment, which causes biodegradation of the scaffold material.

Background: Climate change is increasing the frequency of high heat and high humidity days. Whether these conditions can trigger ventricular arrhythmias [ventricular tachycardia/ventricular fibrillation, VT/VF] in susceptible persons is unknown.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between warm-season weather conditions and risk of VT/VF in individuals with pacemakers and defibrillators.

Background: Growing evidence indicates that metal implants influence the body's oxidative stress status, which in turn affects the degradation and stability of metal implants. The oxidative balance score (OBS) is a composite indicator, reflecting the overall oxidative balance of pro-and antioxidants of the human body. However, the associations between OBS and the level of metal ions on the population with metal implants remain to be elucidated.

Background: To evaluate the risk factors associated with WOI (window of implantation) displacement based on ERT (endometrial receptivity test), and to confirm the association of ectopic pregnancy with WOI displacement.
Methods: This is a retrospective study at the Reproductive Medicine Center of Xiangya Hospital from January 2020 to April 2024, consisting of 934 patients who performed ERT. The patients underwent 3771 assisted reproductive technology (ART) cycles and 2629 embryo transfer (ET) cycles, with each patient experiencing at least one implantation failure.
