Context: Thyroid nodule growth was once considered concerning for malignancy, but data showing that benign nodules grow questioned the use of this paradigm. To date, however, no studies have adequately evaluated whether growth rates differ in malignant vs. benign nodules.
Objective: To sonographically evaluate growth rates in benign and malignant thyroid nodules ≥1 cm.
Design: Prospective, cohort study of patients with tissue diagnosis of benign or malignant disease, with repeated ultrasound evaluation six or more months apart.
Main Outcomes: Growth rate in largest dimension of malignant compared with benign thyroid nodules. Regression models were used to evaluate predictors of growth.
Results: Malignant nodules (126) met inclusion criteria (≥6-month nonoperative followup) and were compared with 1363 benign nodules. Malignant nodules were not found to be uniquely selected or prospectively observed solely for low-risk phenotype. Median ultrasound intervals were similar (21.8 months for benign nodules; 20.9 months for malignant nodules). Malignant nodules were more likely to grow >2 mm/y compared with benign nodules [relative risk (RR) = 2.5, 95% confidence interval (CI), 1.6 to 3.1; P < 0.001], which remained true after adjustment for clinical factors. The RR of a nodule being malignant increased with faster growth rates. Malignant nodules growing >2 mm/y had greater odds of being more aggressive cancers [intermediate risk: odds ratio (OR) = 2.99; 95% CI, 1.20 to 7.47; P = 0.03; higher risk: OR = 8.69; 95% CI, 1.78 to 42.34; P = 0.02].
Conclusions: Malignant nodules, especially higher-risk phenotypes, grow faster than benign nodules. As growth >2 mm/y predicts malignant compared with benign disease, this clinical parameter can contribute to the assessment of thyroid cancer risk.

Aim: Thyroid nodules, based on high-resolution ultrasonography (HRUS), are among the most common endocrine abnormalities that affect the general population because of their high estimated prevalence rates. Fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) is a safe, cost-effective modality to differentiate between benign and malignant thyroid nodules based on the Bethesda System for Reporting Thyroid Cytopathology (BSRTC), thus avoiding unnecessary surgery. However, categories III and IV of BSRTC remain a controversial issue in clinical practice, encompassing a wide range of risks of malignancy.

Background: Immunotherapy represents a major breakthrough in malignant tumor treatment in recent years. Anti-PD-1 immunotherapy has significantly prolonged Event-free Survival (EFS) in Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma (NPC). However, its potent anti-tumor effects can also attack normal tissues and organs, leading to immune-related adverse effects (irAE), with the thyroid being one of the most commonly affected organs.

Objective: To analyze the characteristics of pulmonary nodules (PNs) and related influencing factors in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).
Methods: Retrospectively analyzed the clinical and biochemical characteristics of 224 patients with PNs and 488 patients with non-PNs in patients with T2DM, and compared the clinical data of 72 patients with large nodules (≥ 5 mm) and 152 patients with small nodules (< 5 mm) in the pulmonary nodules (PNs) group.
Results: Compared to the non-PNs group, the PNs Patients in the group had a longer duration of diabetes, higher age, serum creatinine (SCR), blood urea nitrogen (BUN) and the lower albumin (ALB) and body mass index (BMI); women, diabetic retinopathy (DR), diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN), and estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) < 60 ml/min1.

The diverse types and sizes, proximity to non-nodule structures, identical shape characteristics, and varying sizes of nodules make them challenging for segmentation methods. Although many efforts have been made in automatic lung nodule segmentation, most of them have not sufficiently addressed the challenges related to the type and size of nodules, such as juxta-pleural and juxta-vascular nodules. The current research introduces a Squeeze-Excitation Dilated Attention-based Residual U-Net (SEDARU-Net) with a robust intensity normalization technique to address the challenges related to different types and sizes of lung nodules and to achieve an improved lung nodule segmentation.

Introduction: Solitary fibrous tumor (SFT) is a fibroblastic neoplasm of uncertain biological origin that is rare in the tongue.
Case Report: A 42-year-old woman presented with a painless, submucosal nodule in the tongue. Based on the clinical hypothesis of benign mesenchymal neoplasia, the lesion was excised, and the specimen was submitted for histopathological analysis.
