Corticosteroids are a class of steroid hormones that are produced and disengage in the adrenal cortex. Traditionally natural and synthetic corticosteroids are used for diagnosing and treating dysfunctions of the adrenal cortex and treating inflammatory and immunological diseases. Their use is also widespread in oncological practice. Corticosteroids are indispensable in palliative care, in certain urgent oncological cases, as premedication of some chemotherapies and last but not least they have a key role in the secondary hormonal manipulations of metastatic castrate-resistant prostate cancer. The purpose of our review is to describe and compare the effects of different agents in oncological practice, to give a detailed account of the above mentioned indications and would also like to draw attention to the possible side effects of a long-term steroid treatment. Hypoxia at high altitude can constrain aerobic metabolism and elicit physiological responses that are detrimental to health and fitness. Responses of the sympathoadrenal system are vital for coping with acute hypoxia, but can become maladaptive with prolonged activation in chronic hypoxia. We examined how adrenal function is altered in high-altitude populations of deer mice (), which have evolved to overcome chronic hypoxia in their native environment.

Autoimmune pancreatitis (AIP) is a steroid-responsive fibroinflammatory disorder with 2 clinically distinct subtypes known as type 1 autoimmune and type 2 autoimmune pancreatitis. Type 1 AIP is considered the pancreatic manifestation of immunoglobulin G4-related disease, a systemic disease often presenting with other organ involvement. Advances in understanding the unique clinical presentation, imaging findings, histopathology, and clinical course of this relatively uncommon disease have led to international consensus regarding diagnosis and treatment.

The zona glomerulosa (ZG) synthesizes the mineralocorticoid aldosterone. The primary role of aldosterone is the maintenance of volume and electrolyte homeostasis. Aldosterone synthesis is primarily regulated via tightly controlled oscillations in intracellular calcium levels in response to stimulation.

Background: Medical Expulsive Therapy (MET) has been recommended as an established modality for the treatment of distal ureteral stones due to its clearance rate, pain control, and patient satisfaction while having minimal morbidity in comparison to other urologic interventions. In some studies, a combination of medications has been used, which we assessed in this network meta-analysis (NMA).
Methods: We conducted systematic searches in PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science to identify relevant trials published between 2001 and 2024.
