We report the case of a 14-month-old girl suffering from cough and wheeze around Christmas. She was treated with anti-asthmatic drugs with no success, and 3 weeks later a chest X-ray revealed a LED bulb in the left main bronchus. This LED bulb came from a Christmas light garland decorating the Christmas tree. We discuss the different Christmas objects that can be inhaled by young children, the challenge to diagnose bronchial inhalation during this winter period, and the emergence of new foreign bodies, such as LED bulbs, with a particularly aerodynamic shape.

This work estimates Michaelis-Menten kinetics parameters for nutrient transport under varying flow rates in the soft roots of Indian mustard () using a plant fluidic device. To find the metallic components within the roots, inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) analysis was performed. The flow rate-dependent metabolic changes were examined using Raman spectral analysis.

The increasing prevalence of cadmium (Cd)-contaminated agricultural soils threatens the safe production of maize ( L.). To decrease the Cd accumulation in maize, a pot experiment was conducted to study the effects of humic acid on the growth and Cd uptake of maize seedlings.

GABAergic neurons in basal forebrain (BF) nuclei project densely to all layers of the mouse main olfactory bulb (OB), the first relay in odor information processing. However, BF projection neurons are diverse and the contribution of each subtype to odor information processing is not known. In the present study, we used retrograde and anterograde tracing methods together with whole-brain light-sheet analyses, patch-clamp recordings coupled with optogenetic and chemogenetic approaches during spontaneous odor discrimination, and go/no-go odor discrimination/learning tests to characterize the synaptic targets in the OB of BF calretinin-expressing (CR+) GABAergic cells and to reveal their functional implications.

The widespread concern over nanoplastics (NPs) has prompted extensive research into their environmental impact. Concurrently, the study examined the combined toxicity of PS NPs and cadmium (Cd) on wheat. As indicated by the results of in situ Micro-ATR/FTIR, the aging process of PS NPs (50 nm) led to an increase in carbonyl and hydroxyl groups on their surface, enhancing hydrophilicity and consequently, the adsorption capacity for Cd.
