A 73-year-old male patient presented with ocular pain, redness, and blurred vision in the left eye, which had been ongoing for more than 2 months. An oval-shaped paracentral corneal ulcer with stromal infiltration and a mild anterior chamber reaction were found. Despite treatment with empiric antibiotics, the lesion progressed and corneal thinning in the middle area was noted. The culture yielded . We therefore prescribed topical 0.2% fluconazole (FCZ) in combination with oral FCZ as an antifungal treatment, following which the stromal infiltration gradually subsided. Complete epithelial-ization was noted on the 8 day after initiating FCZ therapy. There was no recurrent disease in the subsequent 2 years. Our case demonstrates that topical FCZ 0.2% in combination with oral FCZ can successfully treat keratitis and result in a good visual outcome.

Patients with estrogen receptor-positive (ER+), human epidermal growth factor receptor 2-negative (HER2-) primary breast cancer (BC) have low pathological complete response (pCR) rates with neoadjuvant chemotherapy. A subset of ER+/HER2- BC contains dense lymphocytic infiltration. We hypothesized that addition of an anti-programmed death 1 agent may increase pCR rates in this BC subtype.

The tumor microenvironment is highly heterogeneous and consists of neoplastic cells and diverse stromal components, including fibroblasts, endothelial cells, pericytes, immune cells, local and bone marrow-derived stromal stem and progenitor cells, and the surrounding extracellular matrix. Although the significance of p16 and p53 has been reported in various tumor types, their involvement in the stromal cells of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) remains unclear. We performed immunohistochemical analyses of p16 and p53 expression in OSCC samples, Of the 116 samples, 74 showed p16-positive stromal cells, and 33 showed p53-positive stromal cells.

Introduction: The current understanding of colorectal carcinogenesis is based on the adenoma-carcinoma sequence, where genetics, intestinal microbiota changes and local immunity shifts seem to play the key roles. Despite the emerging evidence of dysbiotic intestinal state and immune-cell infiltration changes in patients with colorectal adenocarcinoma, early and advanced adenoma as precursors of colorectal cancer, and carcinoma as the following progression, are rather less studied. The newly colon-site adapted AI-based analysis of immune infiltrates is able to predict long-term outcomes of colon carcinoma.

To date, the pathogenesis of corneal SEI formation in EKC is unresolved. HMGB1 (high-mobility group box 1 protein) is an alarmin expressed in response to infection and a marker of sepsis.

Combining an integrated thyroid cancer single-cell sequencing atlas with spatial transcriptomics and bulk RNA-sequencing, we define stromal cell subpopulations and tumor-stromal cross-talk occurring across the histologic and mutational spectrum of thyroid cancer. We identify distinct inflammatory and myofibroblastic cancer-associated fibroblast (iCAF and myCAF) populations and perivascular-like populations.
