This study aimed to investigate the cardioprotective effect of quinacrine in an in vivo model of myocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury. A 30-min regional myocardial ischemia followed by a 2-h reperfusion was modeled in anesthetized Wistar rats. Starting at the last minute of ischemia and during the first 9 min of reperfusion the rats in the control (n=8) and experimental (n=9) groups were injected with 0.

Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) is a major factor in sepsis-related mortality and may occur due to lipopolysaccharide (LPS), an endotoxin produced by gram-negative bacteria that triggers a systemic acute inflammatory response. Quinacrine's (QC) renoprotective properties in sepsis and the underlying mechanism, however, are still not fully understood. This study was done to investigate the anti-inflammatory, antioxidative, and anti-apoptotic effects of QC, a phospholipase A2 (PLA2) inhibitor, against LPS-induced AKI.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most common type of dementia characterized by the abnormal accumulation of amyloid-β (Aβ) in the brain. Aβ misfolding is associated with neuroinflammation and synaptic dysfunction, leading to learning and memory deficits. Therefore, Aβ production and aggregation have been one of the most popular drug targets for AD.

Measurement of autophagic flux in vivo is critical to understand how autophagy can be used to combat disease. Neurodegenerative diseases have a special relationship with autophagy, which makes measurement of autophagy in the brain a significant research priority. Currently, measurement of autophagic flux is possible through use of transgenic constructs, or application of a lysosomal inhibitor such as chloroquine.

Background: Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a serious clinical problem with high rate of mortality and morbidity. Currently used prophylactic and therapeutic strategies to address AKI are limited and warrant further studies. In the present study an attempt was made to investigate the effect of quinacrine, a phospholipase A2 inhibitor against glycerol induced AKI in rats.
