1. The concentrations of 8 variables in the blood of impala and roan antelope exposed to acute stress were investigated. 2. An objective measure of the acute stress response, based on the % maximal change of the 8 variables, is suggested. 3. The method takes into account the species specificity of the stress response and is based on changes in the concentration of variables which reflect the (general) hormonal and (neuro-) endocrine balance of an animal at a given time. 4. The species-specific experimental response to stress (SSERTS), thus obtained, is time and procedure dependent.

Orthotopic heart transplant (OHT) is a well-established therapy for end-stage heart failure that leads to improved long-term survival rates, with careful allograft surveillance essential for optimizing clinical outcomes after OHT. Unfortunately, complications can arise after OHT that can compromise the success of the OHT. Cardiac MRI is continually evolving, with a range of advanced techniques that can be applied to evaluate allograft structure and function.

Myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) is a heterogeneous clonal disorder characterized by insufficient hematopoiesis, peripheral blood cytopenia and an increased risk for malignant transformation to acute myeloid leukemia. Several factors, such as age, sex and lifestyle, promote the development of MDS syndrome. Oxidative stress, along with its detrimental effects, cause hematological disorders; however, its role in the pathogenesis of MDS is unknown.
