Bovine intranuclear coccidiosis is caused by the protozoans Eimeria alabamensis and Cyclospora spp. Here, we characterized the disease and genetically identified the causative species in Japanese black calves with chronic and refractory watery diarrhea. Histologic examinations revealed atrophy of the jejunal villi and numerous parasites in the nucleus of epithelial cells in the jejunum. Based on molecular analyses using 18S ribosomal RNA gene-specific primers that we designed, the parasites were found to be formed in the same cluster as Eimeria subspherica in the phylogenetic tree, which was separated from those of other related Eimeria spp. These results constitute the first report of E. subspherica as a cause of bovine intranuclear coccidiosis.

Background: Menopause is a time of accelerated loss of physical function, illustrated by challenges to mobility, speed, strength, and performance of activities of daily living. Physical function is associated with cognitive function, but there are limited data exploring this association among older women. In a cohort of older adult women, we hypothesize better performance on measures of physical function will be associated with better cognitive performance.

Background: Dementia is associated with a range of non-cognitive features that can occur during the prodromal phase. Improved recognition of non-cognitive presentations of dementia could reduce inequalities in dementia diagnosis, particularly if sociocultural factors influence rates of help-seeking for cognitive symptoms. We aimed to investigate presentations to primary care in the years before dementia diagnosis in a deprived and ethnically diverse population with universal access to health care.

The objective of this study was to examine the relationship between the insulin-like peptide 3 (INSL3) receptor (RXFP2) expression levels on spermatozoa and INSL3 concentrations in the seminal plasma of fresh semen from beef bulls with different levels of sperm morphological normality. Ejaculates (n = 44) were collected from 21 yearling Japanese Black beef bulls and categorized into three groups based on the levels of sperm morphological normality: High (normal morphology ≥ 80%; n = 23), Mid (< 80% & ≥ 65%; n = 10) and Low (< 65%; n = 11). Immunofluorescence was used to determine the localization and expression levels of RXFP2 in spermatozoa.

Black hairy tongue, also known as , is a benign oral condition characterized by a dark discoloration and "hairy" appearance on the tongue's dorsal surface, resulting from elongated filiform papillae. This condition is associated with risk factors such as smoking, poor oral hygiene, and diabetes, which increase susceptibility to microbial colonization, particularly by species. Although commonly diagnosed by visual inspection, black hairy tongue is infrequently observed during endoscopic procedures.
