A wafer-scale process for fabricating monolithically suspended nano-perforated membranes (NPMs) with integrated support structures into silicon is developed. Existing fabrication methods are suitable for many desired geometries, but face challenges related to mechanical robustness and fabrication complexity. We demonstrate a process that utilizes the cyclic deposit, remove, etch, and multi-step (DREM) process for directional etching of high-aspect-ratio (HAR) 300 nm in diameter nano-pores of 700 nm pitch.

Sevelamer is a non-absorbable polymer used to treat hyperphosphatemia in individuals with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) undergoing hemodialysis. The deposition of sevelamer crystals in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract, especially in the colon, can cause mucosal inflammation, pseudopolyps, ulceration, ischemia, or necrosis. Owing to its rarity and lack of physician awareness, the actual incidence and prevalence of sevelamer-induced gastrointestinal mucosal injury (SIGMI) remain unknown.

Iliopsoas abscesses are a rare complication of appendicitis and are associated with high morbidity and mortality without appropriate intervention. Current literature provides sufficient evidence for managing psoas abscesses via antimicrobial therapy, CT-guided percutaneous drainage, and laparoscopic or open drainage as primary approaches. However, there is insufficient data in the current literature for assessing improved patient outcomes with robotically assisted laparoscopic drainage as an approach to treatment.

Sodium polystyrene sulfonate (SPS), a cation-exchange resin, has been a mainstay in long-term hyperkalemia management but is associated with significant gastrointestinal complications, particularly when used with sorbitol. The deposition of SPS crystals within the intestinal mucosa has been suggested to precipitate ischemia, necrosis, and ulcerations, ultimately leading to bowel perforation. This case report details a striking instance of massive bowel perforation subsequent to SPS administration, with accompanying findings of disseminated crystals in distant organs and tissues upon autopsy.

Background: and are Gram-positive bacteria involved in the development of dental caries, as they are able to form biofilms on tooth enamel, ferment sugars into acids, and survive under acidic conditions. This ultimately leads to a local lowering of the pH value on the tooth surface, which causes enamel cavities.
Hypothesis: One measure to reduce caries is to limit the growth of cariogenic bacteria by using two anti-bacterial agents with different mechanisms of action.
