High prevalence of clindamycin resistance in blood culture isolates in São Paulo, Brazil.

Department of Pathology, Division of Microbiology, School of Medicine, Santa Casa de São Paulo, São Paulo, Brazil.

Published: January 2017

Background: Clindamycin has become an important antimicrobial option for the treatment of . However, little is known about the current patterns of clindamycin-susceptibility in invasive isolates, both in our country and in other developing countries in the world.

Aims: The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of constitutive and inducible clindamycin resistance in methicillin-susceptible (MSSA) and methicillin-resistant (MRSA) blood culture isolates in São Paulo, Brazil.

Materials And Methods: From July 2011 to June 2012, all isolates from blood cultures collected at our hospital were included in the study. Antimicrobial susceptibility testing was performed according to recommendations of the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute.

Results: Total prevalence of clindamycin resistance was 68%, including 7.2% with inducible resistance. In MRSA resistance rate was 90.8% whereas in MSSA the rate was 32.7%.

Conclusions: Our high prevalence of clindamycin resistance highlights the importance of performing D-test in a routine base, as well of maintaining continued surveillance for the prevalence of clindamycin resistance.

, commonly known as , is a critical zoonotic pathogen that significantly reduces milk yield and product quality and poses a significant risk to public health. Although is increasingly recognised as a principal agent causing milkborne infections, research dedicated to this pathogen in dairy cattle has been less extensive than that of other pathogens. This study aimed to examine the antibiotic resistance profiles of derived from dairy cows and assess its pathogenicity using validated in vivo models.

To understand the colonization status of Group B Streptococcus (GBS) in the reproductive tract of pregnant women in the Linyi region, the drug resistance, genotype distribution, and molecular epidemiological characteristics of GBS, and to explore the high-risk factors for GBS infection in late-stage pregnant women. A total of 3269 pregnant women at 35-37 weeks of gestation who visited the Obstetrics Department of Linyi Maternal and Child Health Hospital from January 2019 to December 2021 were selected as the study subjects. Vaginal and rectal swabs were collected for GBS culture.

Background: Breast milk is a natural treasure for infants, and its microbiota contains a rich array of bacterial species. When breastfeeding is not possible, infant formula with probiotics can be used as a sole source or as a breast milk supplement. The main aim of this study was to evaluate the growth outcomes and tolerance of infants consuming an infant formula containing Bifidobacterium animalis ssp.

Objective: To investigate the molecular typing characteristics, drug resistance status and drug resistance gene carrying of food-borne Staphylococcus aureus in Ningxia.

Methods: Staphylococcus aureus isolated from food safety risk monitoring project in Ningxia in the past ten years were collected, drug resistance was detected using microbroth dilution method, enterotoxins were detected by real-time PCR. The strains were genotyped by pulsed field gel electrophoresis(PFGE) using SmaI endonuclease.

Objectives: In this nationwide cohort study in a Scandinavian setting, we aimed to investigate the magnitude of association between flucloxacillin use and drug-induced liver injury (DILI).

Methods: Nationwide cohort study among adults in Sweden, 2006-2018. Register data on filled prescriptions, patient characteristics, co-medications, and DILI were linked.
