Viruses are the most abundant biological entities on the earth. Some ancient viruses can revive from permafrost along with melting to infect the current hosts. The "zombie viruses" trapped in the ancient deep-sea sediments become the public health concern due to the environmental changes and human activities in deep oceans.

Perylene diimide (PDI) derivatives have been extensively explored as chromophoric dyes for functional organic materials. Here, the custom synthesized tyrosine appended perylene diimide (PDI-Tyr) derivative has shown strong aggregation in aqueous medium diminishing its emissive features, which was surpassed by the supramolecular interaction with β-cyclodextrin (β-CD). Complex formation between PDI-Tyr and β-CD, proposed from the absorption and emission studies, have been substantiated by the 1H-NMR, ITC and geometry optimization data.

The recreation of historic beverages is possible via contemporary fermentations carried out with microbes revived form the past. Advanced molecular techniques have recently provided opportunities to investigate historic samples, such as those from beer found in shipwrecks, and provide data on their character as well as identifying differences with contemporary products. In some cases, isolates of yeasts and bacteria create the possibility for authentic recreations of fermented beverages that can have cultural and nostalgic interest.

Unlabelled: Genes encoding lipid A modifying phosphoethanolamine transferases (PETs) are genetically diverse and can confer resistance to colistin and antimicrobial peptides. To better understand the functional diversity of PETs, we characterized three canonical mobile colistin resistance () alleles (, , ), one intrinsic (), and two -like genes (, ) in . Using an isogenic expression system, we show that and confer similar phenotypes of decreased colistin susceptibility with low fitness costs.
