Ouabain, when added to fluid bathing rabbit ileal mucosa mounted in a flux chamber, transiently increases short circuit current, implying a paradoxical secretory response. To determine the cause of this change, we studied unidirectional fluxes of 36Cl and 23Na and the effects of ion substitution, of reduced Ca concentration, verapamil, tetrodotoxin and atropine. Ouabain 0.1 mM, transiently increased the serosal to mucosal flux of Cl and Na, increased Isc and PD and reduced ion conductance. The Isc response to ouabain was diminished by reducing the bath fluid concentration of Cl, of Ca, and by adding verapamil. Tetrodotoxin both delayed and reduced the maximal Isc response; atropine had no effect. We conclude that ouabain acts by releasing a neurotransmitter of unknown identity and by increasing the serosal to mucosal flux of Cl.

SARS-Cov-2 is a corona virus that causes COVID-19 disease, a viral infection responsible for the pandemic decreed by the World Health Organization in March 2020. Angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE-2) functions as the main receptor for SARS-Cov-2. The study aimed to detect the expression of ACE-2 in the gastrointestinal tract, kidney, and lung in the rhesus monkeys and squirrel monkeys.

Enteropathogenic (EPEC) strains are subdivided into typical (tEPEC) and atypical (aEPEC) according to the presence or absence of a virulence-associated plasmid called pEAF. Our research group has previously demonstrated that two aEPEC strains, 0421-1 and 3991-1, induce an increase in mucus production in a rabbit ileal loop model . This phenomenon was not observed with a tEPEC prototype strain.

The present research aimed to evaluate the effects of the continuative dietary administration of a hemp oil extract containing cannabinoids (cannabidiol, CBD) on the macroscopic morphology, morphometry, and enzymatic activity of different intestinal tracts as well as on the production of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) in the cecum of growing rabbits. The research was performed on 16 rabbits randomly selected from 2 experimental groups (8 per group). In detail, 42 sixty-day-old New Zealand White × California rabbits (sex ratio 1:1, average weight 1621.

The rearing system of livestock plays a vital role in animal production, meat quality, and overall welfare. This study aimed to assess the influence of cage-rearing system and forest-rearing system on the ileum microbiota, metabolome, and ileal mucosa transcriptome in meat rabbits. Moreover, 16S rDNA sequencing revealed significant differences in the ileal microbiome composition: caged rabbits exhibited a higher abundance of the genera uncultured and , whereas the levels of , unclassified , and uncultured were lower compared to rabbits reared in the forest.

Background/aim: This study aims to explore the role of NF-kB p65/p50 expression in patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), those with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and normal controls.
Patients And Methods: Twenty patients with IBS, 19 subjects with IBD and 18 normal controls, who underwent colonoscopy, provided us with biopsies from the terminal ileum, cecum and rectum. Patients with IBS were categorized according to bowel habits.
