Using UV-Vis spectrophotometry a stability study of melatonin at different pH values was done in aqueous media, finding that at acidic pH melatonin is unstable when interacting with the environment, however it becomes stable protecting it from light and oxygen. From the UV-Vis spectra and SQUAD software, melatonin pK values, in a completely protected aqueous medium, were estimated as 5.777±0.011 and 10.201±0.024. Using the same techniques, the melatonin and β-cyclodextrin inclusion complex formation constants were assessed at pH3, 7 and 11.5, giving the values of log β=(3.07±0.06), (2.94±0.01) and (3.07±0.06) M, respectively. From the global acidity formation constants and the complexes' formation constants, the molar fractions were determined for each species of MT and MT-βCD, to build the molar fraction-[βCD]-pH 3D diagram and the molar fraction-pH 2D diagrams, where it was possible to observe the predominance of the MT species with and without βCD. A voltammetric study at pH3, allowed obtaining a value of log β=(3.15±0.01) M, which corroborates that obtained through UV-Vis spectrophotometry, supporting strongly the rationale behind using simple, straightforward techniques.

Delayed sleep-wake phase disorder involves chronic difficulty going to bed and waking up at conventional times and often co-occurs with depression. This study compared sleep and circadian rhythms between patients with delayed sleep-wake phase disorder with depression (DSWPD-D) and without (DSWPD-ND) comorbid depression. Clinical records of 162 patients with delayed sleep-wake phase disorder (70 DSWPD-D, 92 DSWPD-ND) were analysed, including a subset of 76 patients with circadian phase determined by the dim light melatonin onset.

Background: Behavioral jet lags (social and eating jet lag), the difference in sleep and eating time between weekdays and weekends, are ubiquitous in modern society. However, evidence on the effects of behavioral jet lags on circadian rhythm is limited.
Methods: Social jet lag was assessed using wrist-worn accelerometers.

is known for its popularity and robust nutritional value. While fresh fruit is a perishable commodity, it has a short post-harvest life and is susceptible to fungal decay after harvest. Melatonin has been reported to delay the aging and quality decline of various fruits and vegetables after harvest.

The human pineal gland is the largest producer of the hormone melatonin. Pineal acervuli (brain sand), calcified concretions in the pineal gland, have long been studied because of their association with ageing, melatonin production, and neurological disorders. The solid inorganic matter of the hydroxyapatite crystals often renders sample sectioning impossible, to the extent that the sections lose value.

Although the antiallergic properties of compounds such as CAPE, Melatonin, Curcumin, and Vitamin C have been poorly discussed by experimental studies, the antiallergic properties of these famous molecules have never been discussed with calculations. The histamine-1 receptor (H1R) belongs to the family of rhodopsin-like G-protein-coupled receptors expressed in cells that mediate allergies and other pathophysiological diseases. In this study, pharmacological activities of FDA-approved second generation H1 antihistamines (Levocetirizine, desloratadine and fexofenadine) and molecules such as CAPE, Melatonin, Curcumin, Vitamin C, ADMET (Absorption, Distribution, Metabolism, Excretion, Toxicity) profiles, density functional theory (DFT), molecular docking, biological targets and activities were compared by calculating.
