Preterm infants are at high risk of developing respiratory distress syndrome (RDS). Mutations in the genes encoding for surfactant proteins B and C or the ATP-binding cassette transporter A3 (ABCA3) are rare but known to be associated with severe RDS and interstitial lung diseases. The exact prevalence of these mutations in the general population is difficult to determine, as they are usually studied in connection with clinical symptoms.

This study investigates whether incorporating olfactory dysfunction into motor subtypes of Parkinson's disease (PD) improves associations with clinical outcomes. PD is commonly divided into motor subtypes, such as postural instability and gait disturbance (PIGD) and tremor-dominant PD (TDPD), but non-motor symptoms like olfactory dysfunction remain underexplored. We assessed 157 participants with PD using the University of Pennsylvania Smell Identification Test (UPSIT), Movement Disorder Society-Sponsored Revision of the Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale (M-UPDRS), Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA), 39-item Parkinson's Disease Questionnaire Summary Index (PDQ-39 SI), and 99mTc-TRODAT-1 imaging.

Phenolic compounds are typical organic pollutants which cause severe human health problems due to their teratogenesis, carcinogenesis, neurotoxicity, immunotoxicity and endocrine disruption. Natural laccase is a multicopper oxidase existing in bacteria, plants, and insects, which can accelerate the transformation of phenolic compounds to their less hazardous oxidized products under mild conditions without harmful byproducts. Despite eco-environmentally friendly property of laccase, it still faces constraints of widespread application attribute to its high cost, complex preparation, and vulnerability.
