The recovery of high molecular weight peptides from complex biological samples is a challenging task. Herein, a reliable, cost effective and rapid methodology was developed for the recovery and quantification of a myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein epitope namely (LysGly)MOG, from rat plasma. Removal of plasma proteins before quantification of the peptide was achieved after precipitation by an acetonitrile/water/formic acid solution. Using the developed protocol, average recoveries of the peptide from plasma ranged between 83.3 and 90.3%.

Background The synthetic opioid tramadol is widely used as a pain reliever. Unlike other opioids, it is used freely worldwide, unaffected by international controls resulting in abuse and accidental intoxication. Analytical methods are necessary to prove tramadol abuse because 30% of the drug is excreted unchanged.

Quantitative determination of leptin hormone using gold nanoparticle-based lateral flow assay.

Mikrochim Acta

January 2025

Science and Technology Research and Application Center (BITAM), Necmettin Erbakan University, Konya, Türkiye.

A lateral flow assay (LFA) has been developed that can be used in point-of-care (PoC) use for the sensitive determination of leptin hormone. The limit of detection value was 0.158 ng/mL and the limit of quantification value was 0.

A simply synthesized, silver ions-doped porous gold microparticles-based SERS aptamer sensor for ultrasensitive and broad-range quantitative detection of IL-6.

Anal Chim Acta

January 2025

Key Laboratory of Biomaterials of Guangdong Higher Education Institutes, Department of Biomedical Engineering, Jinan University, Guangzhou, 510632, China. Electronic address:

Background: The multifunctional cytokine interleukin-6 (IL-6) plays a pivotal role in chronic and acute inflammatory responses, underscoring the importance of accurately determining IL-6 levels for early diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of inflammation.

Results: This study developed a versatile and innovative single-particle surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) sensing platform for the precise and sensitive quantification of IL-6 in complex samples using a novel one-pot synthesized, silver ions-doped three-dimensional porous gold microparticles (PGMs) with abundant hot spots for robust SERS enhancement. By rationally designing rich cytosine-Ag-cytosine base pairs between IL-6 aptamers and complementary chains on the PGMs, we harnessed the SERS-enhancing effect to achieve highly sensitive and specific IL-6 quantification within a wide range of 10 to 10 mg/mL and a limit of detection (LOD) of 0.

Serially coupled columns enhance rapid separation and predictive interaction understanding of 93 fentanyl analogs.

Anal Chim Acta

January 2025

College of Pharmacy, Chung-Ang University, 84 Heukseok-ro, Dongjak-gu, Seoul, 06974, Republic of Korea. Electronic address:

Background: The simplicity of synthesis methods has facilitated the illegal manufacture of various fentanyl analogs, leading to numerous fatal overdoses worldwide, particularly in North America. Fentanyl analogs with similar structures are difficult to distinguish due to their fragmentation patterns, making separation using chromatography essential. Additionally, because fentanyl analogs are lethal even in trace amounts, they are easily smuggled, and commonly used fentanyl test strips often fail to detect them due to their low sensitivity.

Design and preparation of novel magnetic covalent organic framework for the simultaneous preconcentration and sensitive determination of six aflatoxins in food samples.

Food Chem

December 2024

Institute of Food Safety, Chinese Academy of Inspection and Quarantine, Beijing 100176, China; Key Laboratory of Food Quality and Safety for State Market Regulation, Chinese Academy of Inspection and Quarantine, Beijing 100176, China. Electronic address:

An innovative core-shell covalent organic framework (COF), FeO@COF (ETTBA-ND), was synthesized through a facile and energy-efficient method. This adsorbent facilitated magnetic solid phase extraction (MSPE) of six AFs prior to LC-MS/MS analysis, achieving one-step purification and enrichment in food matrices. The successful synthesis of the adsorbent was confirmed using various techniques, with adsorption capacities ranging from 46.
