Contagious crying in infants has been considered an early marker of their sensitivity to others' emotions, a form of emotional contagion, and an early basis for empathy. However, it remains unclear whether infant distress in response to peer distress is due to the emotional content of crying or acoustically aversive properties of crying. Additionally, research remains severely biased towards samples from Europe and North America.

The hippocampus possesses anatomical differences along its long axis. Here, we explored the functional specialization of the human hippocampal long axis using network-anchored precision functional MRI in two independent datasets (N = 11 and N = 9) paired with behavioral analysis (N = 266 and N = 238). Functional connectivity analyses demonstrated that the anterior hippocampus was preferentially correlated with a cerebral network associated with remembering, while the posterior hippocampus selectively contained a region correlated with a distinct network associated with behavioral salience.

Visual search becomes slower with aging, particularly when targets are difficult to discriminate from distractors. Multiple distractor rejection processes may contribute independently to slower search times: dwelling on, skipping of, and revisiting of distractors, measurable by eye-tracking. The present study investigated how age affects each of the distractor rejection processes, and how these contribute to the final search times in difficult (inefficient) visual search.

The goal of the present investigation was to perform a registered replication of Jones and Macken's (1995b) study, which showed that the segregation of a sequence of sounds to distinct locations reduced the disruptive effect on serial recall. Thereby, it postulated an intriguing connection between auditory stream segregation and the cognitive mechanisms underlying the irrelevant speech effect. Specifically, it was found that a sequence of changing utterances was less disruptive in stereophonic presentation, allowing each auditory object (letters) to be allocated to a unique location (right ear, left ear, center), compared to when the same sounds were played monophonically.

Background: Urogenital schistosomiasis is a persistent public health problem in many rural areas of Yemen. Since 2014, epidemiology has not been assessed in Amran governorate, north of Yemen, where is known to be highly endemic. Therefore, this study determined the prevalence and risk factors associated with infection among schoolchildren in Kharif district of the governorate.
