This research investigated the removal of lead (Pb) by a novel biochar derived from palm oil sludge (POS-char) by slow pyrolysis. Multistage optimizations with central composite design were carried out to firstly optimize pyrolysis parameters to produce the best POS-char for Pb removal and secondly to optimize adsorption conditions for the highest removal of Pb. The optimum pyrolysis parameters were nitrogen flowrateof30mLmin, heating rateof10°Cmin, temperatureof500°C and timeof30min. The optimum Pb adsorption conditions were concentrationof200mgL, timeof60min, dosageof0.3g and pH of 3.02. The various functional groups within POS-char played a vital role in Pb uptake. Regeneration was demonstrated to be feasible using hydrochloric acid. Adsorption equilibrium was best described by Freundlich model. At low concentration range, adsorption kinetic obeyed pseudo-first-order model, but at high concentration range, it followed pseudo-second-order model. Overall, the results highlighted that POS-char is an effective adsorbent for Pb removal.

Purpose: This study aims to address the challenging estimation of trajectories from freehand ultrasound examinations by means of registration of automatically generated surface points. Current approaches to inter-sweep point cloud registration can be improved by incorporating heatmap predictions, but practical challenges such as label-sparsity or only partially overlapping coverage of target structures arise when applying realistic examination conditions.
Methods: We propose a pipeline comprising three stages: (1) Utilizing a Free Point Transformer for coarse pre-registration, (2) Introducing HeatReg for further refinement using support point clouds, and (3) Employing instance optimization to enhance predicted displacements.

In recent years, image-guided brachytherapy for cervical cancer has become an important treatment method for patients with locally advanced cervical cancer, and multi-modality image registration technology is a key step in this system. However, due to the patient's own movement and other factors, the deformation between the different modalities of images is discontinuous, which brings great difficulties to the registration of pelvic computed tomography (CT/) and magnetic resonance (MR) images. In this paper, we propose a multimodality image registration network based on multistage transformation enhancement features (MTEF) to maintain the continuity of the deformation field.

Developing efficient and cost-effective rare earth element-based electrocatalysts for water splitting remains a significant challenge. To address this, interface engineering and charge modulation strategies were employed to create a three-dimensional coral-like CeF/MoO heterostructure electrocatalyst, grown in situ on the multistage porous channels of carbonized sugarcane fiber (CSF). Integrating abundant CeF/MoO heterostructure interfaces and numerous oxygen vacancy defects significantly enhanced the catalyst's active sites and molecular activation capabilities.

Adhesion at the interface between dissimilar materials in the semiconductor industry is an important topic, but reliable quantitative methods for strongly adhesive or highly plastic layers are hardly available. This study aims to investigate the suitability of the cross-sectional nanoindentation (CSN) method for determination of the critical energy release rate of thin film stacks in the presence of a polyimide layer as a representative structure for such a case. For this purpose, the adhesion of a deliberately weakened Si/SiO interface in a Si/SiO/Al/SiN/polyimide stack is examined by systematic variation of the experimental parameters.
