Localization of unmanned aircraft systems (UASs) in indoor scenarios and GNSS-denied environments is a difficult problem, particularly in dynamic scenarios where traditional on-board equipment (such as LiDAR, radar, sonar, camera) may fail. In the framework of autonomous UAS missions, precise feedback on real-time aircraft position is very important, and several technologies alternative to GNSS-based approaches for UAS positioning in indoor navigation have been recently explored. In this paper, we propose a low-cost IPS for UAVs, based on Bluetooth low energy (BLE) beacons, which exploits the (received signal strength indicator) for distance estimation and positioning.

Background: As unmanned aerial spraying systems (UASS) usage grows rapidly worldwide, a critical research study was conducted to optimize the simulation of UASS applications, aiming to enhance pesticide delivery efficiency and reduce environmental impact. The study examined several key aspects for accurate simulation of UASS application with lattice Boltzmann method (LBM). Based on these discussions, the most suitable grid size and simulation parameters were selected to create a robust model for optimizing UASS performance in various pest management scenarios, potentially leading to more targeted and sustainable pest control practices.

Pleiotropic drug resistance (PDR) family proteins have been extensively studied for their roles in transporting hydrophobic substances, including carotenoids. Overexpression of the PDR family regulator Pdr3p was recently found to boost the biosynthesis of carotenoids, which could not be explained by enhanced product secretion due to the meager extracellular proportions. To provide insights into the possible mechanism, comparative transcriptomics, reverse metabolic engineering, and electrophoretic mobility shift assay (EMSA) were conducted.

Pavement surface maintenance is pivotal for road safety. There exist a number of manual, time-consuming methods to examine pavement conditions and spot distresses. More recently, alternative pavement monitoring methods have been developed, which take advantage of unmanned aerial systems (UASs).

Construction is a highly hazardous industry typified by several complex features in dynamic work environments that have the possibility of causing harm or ill health to construction workers. The constant monitoring of workers' unsafe behaviors and work conditions is considered not only a proactive but also an active method of removing safety and health hazards and preventing potential accidents on construction sites. The integration of sensor technologies and artificial intelligence for computer vision can be used to create a robust management strategy and enhance the analysis of safety and health data needed to generate insights and take action to protect workers on construction sites.
