The proper function(s) of cell-surface receptors is crucial for the regulation of adaptive immune responses. One such receptor is the α(CD103)β integrin, whose history in science is closely linked with the evolution of our knowledge of immune regulation. Initially described as a marker of intraepithelial T-lymphocytes, this leukocyte integrin is now seen as a dynamically regulated receptor involved in the functional differentiation of some cytotoxic T cells as well as regulatory T cells, thus presumably contributing to the fine-tuning of immune reactions in epithelial compartments. In this brief overview, we delineate our current view on α(CD103)β in T-cell-mediated immune responses.

This study defines biochemical mechanisms that contribute to novel neural-regenerative activities we recently demonstrated for thiol-modified ManNAc analogs in human neural stem cells (hNSCs) by comparing our lead drug candidate for brain repair, "TProp," to a "size-matched" N-alkyl control analog, "But." These analogs biosynthetically install non-natural sialic acids into cell surface glycans, altering cell surface receptor activity and adhesive properties of cells. In this study, TProp modulated sialic acid-related biology in hNSCs to promote neuronal differentiation through modulation of cell adhesion molecules (integrins α6, β1, E-cadherin, and PSGL-1) and stem cell markers.

Radiolabeled peptides are vital for positron emission tomography (PET) imaging, yet the F-labeling peptides remain challenging due to harsh conditions and time-consuming premodification requirements. Herein, we developed a novel vinyltetrazine-mediated bioorthogonal approach for highly efficient F-radiolabeling of a native peptide under mild conditions. This approach enabled radiosynthesis of various tumor-targeting PET tracers, including targeting the neurofibromin receptor (), the integrin αβ (), and the platelet-derived growth factor receptor β (), with a radiochemical yield exceeding 90%.
