Background: Binary functional monomers, allyl-β-cyclodextrin (allyl-β-CD) and methacrylic acid (MAA) or allyl-β-CD and acrylonitrile (AN), were exploited in a fabrication of molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) for selective recognition and large enrichment of pirimicarb from aqueous media.

Results: Special attention was paid to the computational simulation of the imprinting molecular and functional monomers. The morphological characteristics of MIPs made of allyl-β-CD and MAA (M-MAA) were characterised by scanning electron microscopy. The effect of binding capacity of MAA-linked allyl-β-CD MIPs (M-MAA) demonstrated higher efficiency than that of AN-linked allyl-β-CD MIPs (M-AN) when tested in binding specificity. Finally, M-MAA was chosen to run through molecularly imprinted solid-phase extraction (MISPE) to analyse the spiked fresh leafy vegetables of pirimicarb.

Conclusion: The present proposed technique is a promising tool for the preparation of the receptors which could recognise pirimicarb pesticide in aqueous media. © 2017 Society of Chemical Industry.

Vat photopolymerization (VPP) is an additive manufacturing method that requires the design of photocurable resins to act as feedstock and binder for the printing of parts, both monolithic and composite. The design of a suitable photoresin is costly and time-consuming. The development of one formulation requires the consumption of kilograms of costly materials, weeks of printing and performance testing, as well as the need to have developers with the expertise and knowledge of the materials used, making the development process cost thousands.

Two Cysteines in Raf Kinase Inhibitor Protein Make Differential Contributions to Structural Dynamics In Vitro.

As a scaffolding protein, Raf kinase binding protein (RKIP) is involved in a variety of cellular pathways, including the Raf-MEK-ERK-cascade. It acts as a negative regulator by binding to its partners, making it an attractive target in the development of therapeutic strategies for cancer. Despite its structural stability as a monomer, RKIP may form a dimer, resulting in the switching of binding partners.

We perform DFT calculations with different hybrid (ωB97X-D and M05-2X) and double hybrid (B2PLYP-D3 and ωB2PLYP) functionals to characterize the lowest energy triplet excited states of naphthalene monomer and dimers in different stacking arrangements and to simulate their absorption spectra. We show that both excimer and localized triplet minima exist. In the former, the spin density is delocalized over the two monomers, adopting a face-to-face arrangement with a short inter-molecular distance.

(Meth)acrylate polymers are commonly used as photoresist materials in photolithography. However, these polymers encounter the problem of swelling during the development process. To address this, we explored the use of a hydrophobic group to control the solubility in the hydrophilic developer.

The Arabidopsis transcription factor WUSCHEL-related homeobox 14 (AtWOX14) plays versatile roles in plant growth and development. However, its biochemical specificity of DNA binding, its genome-wide regulatory targets, and how these are affected by DNA methylation remain uncharacterized. To clarify the biochemistry underlying the regulatory function of AtWOX14, using the recently developed 5mC-incorporation strategy, this study performed SELEX and DAP-seq for AtWOX14 both in the presence and absence of cytosine methylation, systematically curated 65 motif models and identified 51,039 genomic binding sites for AtWOX14, and examined how 5mC affects DNA binding of AtWOX14 through bioinformatic analyses.
