Malignant neoplasms arise within a region of chronic inflammation caused by tissue injuries. Inflammation is a key factor involved in all aspects of tumorigenesis including initiation, proliferation, invasion, angiogenesis, and metastasis. Interleukin-1 (IL-1) plays critical functions in tumor development with influencing the tumor microenvironment and promoting cancer progression.

Objective: Ciliary body medulloepithelioma (CBME), a pediatric intraocular tumor with potential for locally aggressive behavior and metastasis, may present with a diverse spectrum of clinical and histopathologic features leading to diagnostic and management challenges. Examination of unusual CBME cases highlights challenges and modern diagnostic techniques which facilitate accurate diagnosis and guide management.

Methods: A retrospective clinicopathologic analysis of 6 patients with unusual clinical or pathologic features of CBME was performed.

Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are cell derived nanovesicles which are implicated in both physiological and pathological intercellular communication, including the initiation, progression, and metastasis of cancer. The exchange of biomolecules between stromal cells and cancer cells via EVs can provide a window to monitor cancer development in real time for better diagnostic and interventional strategies. In addition, the process of secretion and internalization of EVs by stromal and cancer cells in the tumor microenvironment (TME) can be exploited for delivering therapeutics.

Background: Penile metastasis originating from prostate cancer is an extremely rare condition, typically associated with a poor prognosis. Therapeutic approaches are not well established and may require individualized adaptation based on clinical assessment. Radiotherapy is commonly utilized to alleviate symptoms.

Background: Recent research has highlighted lactate's crucial role in epigenetic regulation, particularly by influencing histone modifications that drive the initiation and progression of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). While mitochondria are known to regulate tumor behavior, the interaction between lactate metabolism and mitochondrial function in cancer tissues remains underexplored. Understanding this relationship may provide deeper insights into tumor metabolic reprogramming and reveal novel therapeutic targets for HCC and other malignancies.
