A precursor feeding strategy was used for the first time in agitated microshoot cultures of . This strategy involved the addition of biogenetic precursors of simple phenolic acids (phenylalanine, cinnamic acid, and benzoic acid) and depsides (caffeic acid) into the culture media, with an assessment of its effect on the production of these bioactive compounds. The in vitro cultures were maintained in Murashige-Skoog medium (1 mg/L BAP and 1 mg/L NAA).

Regional metabolic heterogeneity in anterior cingulate cortex in major depressive disorder: A multi-voxel H magnetic resonance spectroscopy study.

Article Synopsis
  • A study investigated the differences in neuro-metabolite concentrations in the anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) between young adults with major depressive disorder (MDD) and healthy controls, focusing on two subregions: the pregenual ACC (pACC) and anterior midcingulate cortex (aMCC).
  • Results showed that MDD patients had higher levels of glutamate and glutamine in the pACC and higher myo-inositol in the aMCC compared to controls, indicating pronounced metabolic changes in the MDD group.
  • The findings suggest that the pACC and aMCC may have different roles in MDD, highlighting the regional metabolic differences in the ACC and contributing to

Bruch Membrane Opening Detection Accuracy in Healthy Eyes and Eyes With Glaucoma With and Without Axial High Myopia in an American and Korean Cohort.

Am J Ophthalmol

May 2022

From the Hamilton Glaucoma Center (J.R., J.A.P., C.B., J.D., M.C., A.B., S.M.V., K.D., R.S., N.A.A., R.N.W., L.M.Z.), Shiley Eye Institute, Viterbi Family Department of Ophthalmology, University of California, San Diego, La Jolla, California, USA. Electronic address:

Purpose: To determine the predictors of Bruch membrane opening (BMO) location accuracy and the visibility of the BMO location in glaucoma and healthy individuals with and without axial high myopia.

Design: Cross-sectional study.

Methods: Healthy eyes and eyes with glaucoma from an American study and a Korean clinic population were classified into 2 groups: those with no axial high myopia (axial length [AL] <26 mm) and those with axial high myopia (AL ≥26 mm).

Oxidative/nitrosative stress and mitochondrial dysfunction is a hallmark of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), an invariably fatal progressive neurodegenerative disease. Here, as an exploratory arm of a phase II clinical trial (EudraCT Number 2017-005065-47), we used high performance liquid chromatography(HPLC) to investigate changes in the metabolic profiles of serum from ALS patients treated weekly for 4 weeks with a repeated sub-cutaneous dose of 1 mg/kg of a proprietary low molecular weight dextran sulphate, called ILB. A significant normalization of the serum levels of several key metabolites was observed over the treatment period, including N-acetylaspartate (NAA), oxypurines, biomarkers of oxidative/nitrosative stress and antioxidants.

Recent developments on PET radiotracers for TSPO and their applications in neuroimaging.

Division of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging, Massachusetts General Hospital & Department of Radiology, Harvard Medical School, Boston, MA 02114, USA.

The 18 kDa translocator protein (TSPO), previously known as the peripheral benzodiazepine receptor, is predominately localized to the outer mitochondrial membrane in steroidogenic cells. Brain TSPO expression is relatively low under physiological conditions, but is upregulated in response to glial cell activation. As the primary index of neuroinflammation, TSPO is implicated in the pathogenesis and progression of numerous neuropsychiatric disorders and neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer's disease (AD), amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), Parkinson's disease (PD), multiple sclerosis (MS), major depressive disorder (MDD) and obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD).
