Plant-derived bioactive compounds are becoming immensely important as potential drugs. Different solvents are being used for extraction of these phytochemicals. Evaluation of biological activities of aqueous plant extracts is important as water soluble compounds would be more beneficial with respect to certification, safety and commercial issues. Oxidative stress is involved in development of many diseases; therefore, antioxidants are now being looked upon as convincing therapeutics against such diseases. Natural antioxidants are in high demand because of their lesser side effects. This study aims to compare the antioxidant activity of aqueous and methanolic extracts of -a traditional medicinal plant. The activity was examined using different in vitro systems including radical scavenging activity, lipid peroxidation and inhibition of OH radical induced DNA damage using standard protocols. Both aqueous and methanolic extracts of show significant activities with no differences in the efficacies of water and methanol soluble bioactive compounds. Present study revealed that aqueous extract of has equal potential to be used as antioxidants as compared to methanolic extract. This can contribute to increased demand of physiologically compatible bioactive compounds of natural origin.

Eurema mandarina is a pierid butterfly that primarily feeds on plants in the family Fabaceae. In mainland Japan, adult females preferentially lay eggs on Albizia julibrissin and Lespedeza cuneata. In the field, females may oviposit on non-fabaceous plants, although rarely.

The large-scale implementation of 2D material-based membranes is hindered by mechanical stability and mass transport control challenges. This work describes the fabrication, characterisation, and testing of self-standing graphene oxide (GO) membranes cross-linked with oxides such as FeO, AlO, CaSO, NbO, and a carbide, SiC. These cross-linking agents enhance the mechanical stability of the membranes and modulate their mass transport properties.

Members of the genus are the conventional medicinal plants used in the therapeutic management of numerous ailments, especially for their antioxidant and pharmacological activities. The crude extract of was profiled using high-resolution GC-MS and LC-MS/MS techniques to determine possible bioactive compounds that are vital to the antioxidant activity. A total of 52 and 63 bioactive compounds have been detected in GC-MS chromatograms using different solvents (methanol and ethanol) in leaf extracts, representing the presence of certain bioactive compounds.

Background: This study evaluated in vitro antigiardial activity in four Indonesian plants (Archidendron fagifolium, Diospyros sumatrana, Piper betle and Shorea sumatrana) extracted in methanol, methanol-tetrahydrofuran, and water. These plants exhibiting promising anti-parasitic activity were selected on the basis of collected behavioral data and their ability to decrease parasite load in Sumatran orangutans. Extracts of Arabidopsis thaliana, a plant routinely used as a laboratory model in research, were used as a negative control.

Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS)-containing firefighting foam have been used in stationary fire suppression systems for several decades. However, there is a lack of research on how to decontaminate PFAS-contaminated infrastructure and evaluate treatment efficiency. This study assessed the removal of PFAS from stainless steel pipe surfaces using different cleaning agents (tap water, methanol, and aqueous solutions containing 10 and 20 wt % of butyl carbitol (BC)) at different temperatures (20 °C, 40 °C, and 70 °C).
