This study measured the need for formal alternative modes of transportation among older adults by applying traditional factors of the Behavioral Model. Survey participants who regularly drove were compared to those who could no longer drive. Race/ethnicity and self-reported health were significant predictors of perceived need for transportation services for both groups. However, income and service awareness were significant predictors only for drivers, while family proximity was a significant predictor only for non-drivers. Results suggest the importance of gaining a better understanding of the factors associated with need for senior-focused transportation services to more effectively plan such programs.

The retinal Schiff base is a chromophore of significant biological relevance, as it is responsible for capturing sunlight in rhodopsins, which are photoactive proteins found in various living organisms. Additionally, this chromophore is subjected to various mechanical forces in different proteins, which alter its structure and, consequently, its properties. To thoroughly understand the mechanical response limits of the retinal excitation energy, a simple first-order formalism has been developed to quantify the chromophore's optimal mechanical response to applied external forces (on the order of tens of pN).

Background: This study explores the facilitating and inhibiting factors in the design/development, implementation, and applicability/evaluation of value-based payment models of integrated care. The Delphi technique was used to reach consensus among a panel of (inter)national experts on these factors.
Methods: An expert panel of 15 members participated in a three-round Delphi study.

Serotonin syndrome (SS) is a potentially life-threatening condition that can result from excessive serotonergic activity, often due to SSRIs, formally known as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors. The syndrome and its effects are often secondary to drug-drug interactions or dose-related. This case highlights a 47-year-old female who presents with a history of major depressive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, and severe alcohol use disorder.

Background: The repeated airway obstructions in the common disorder Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) cause health risks. Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP), the standard treatment, faces adherence challenges. Mandibular Advancement Devices (MADs) have been used successfully for mild to moderate OSA, as a good alternative for these patients.

Osmotic stresses during cryoprotectant loading induce changes in cellular volume, leading to membrane damage or even cell death. Appropriate model-guided mitigation of these osmotic gradients during cryoprotectant loading is currently lacking, but would be highly beneficial in reducing viability loss during the loading process. To address this need, we reformulate the two-parameter formalism described by Jacobs and Stewart for cryoprotectant loading under the constraint of constant cell volume.
