The conversion of glycerol to epichlorohydrin (GTE) is of great interest because the product is widely used in plastics, rubbers and adhesives, and also contributes to the disposal of the reactant glycerol, a major by-product in biodiesel production. Here we find effective catalysis by small gold clusters for the GTE reaction in water with an enhanced selectivity towards the desired product. Along with natural bond orbital (NBO) analysis rationalizing the donor-acceptor charge-transfer interactions, we illustrate the mechanism for bond activation in the reactants and intermediates over gold cluster catalysts, and present thermodynamically and kinetically favoured reaction pathways for dehydrochlorination in GTE processes.

Methods: Linked data were sourced from the population-based Queensland Oncology Repository. Eligible people were diagnosed with NSCLC between 2012 and 2021, with follow-up on treatment and mortality available to 31 December 2022.

The gold standard therapy for peripheral nerve injuries involves surgical repair, which is invasive and leads to major variations in therapeutic outcomes. Because of this, smaller injuries often go untreated. However, alternative, noninvasive routes of administration are currently unviable due to the presence of the blood-nerve barrier (BNB), which prevents passage of small molecules from the blood into the endoneurium and the nerve.

CNM-Au8 is a suspension of gold nanocrystals that catalyzes the conversion of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide hydride into NAD+, resulting in an increase of cellular adenosine triphosphate production.

Conjunctival melanoma is a rare disease that nevertheless has a high tumor-associated mortality rate. A resection in sano with adjuvant local treatment currently represents the therapeutic gold standard and systemic treatment is used for metastasized conjunctival melanoma and/or very advanced nonresectable local findings. New knowledge on molecular changes in conjunctival melanoma shows a clear similarity to those of cutaneous melanoma.
