Objective: This study explores the potential use of drones in searching for and locating victims and of motorized transportation of search and rescue providers in a mountain environment using a simulation model.
Methods: This prospective randomized simulation study was performed in order to compare two different search and rescue techniques in searching for an unconscious victim on snow-covered ground. In the control arm, the Classical Line Search Technique (CLT) was used, in which the search is performed on foot and the victim is reached on foot. In the intervention arm, the Drone-snowmobile Technique (DST) was used, the search being performed by drone and the victim reached by snowmobile. The primary outcome of the study was the comparison of the two search and rescue techniques in terms of first human contact time.
Results: Twenty search and rescue operations were conducted in this study. Median time to arrival at the mannequin was 57.3min for CLT, compared to 8.9min for DST. The median value of the total searched area was 88,322.0m for CLT and 228,613.0m for DST. The median area searched per minute was 1489.6m for CLT and 32,979.9m for DST (p<0.01 for all comparisons).
Conclusions: In conclusion, a wider area can be searched faster by drone using DST compared to the classical technique, and the victim can be located faster and reached earlier with rescuers transported by snowmobile.

Unlabelled: Sarcoidosis is a multisystemic syndrome characterized by non-caseous granulomatous inflammation, although necrotizing sarcoid granulomatosis is considered part of the spectrum of the disease. Drug induced sarcoidosis-like reaction (DISR) is a systemic granulomatous reaction, which is histopathologically identical to primary sarcoidosis - mostly described after the use of biologics like tumour necrosis factor alpha antagonists but also anti-CD20 (rituximab). The authors present the very rare case of a woman with a primary Sjögren's syndrome (pSS) started on rituximab for disease control, which evolved with a 3-year indolent progressive systemic sarcoid reaction.

Objectives: Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), which is used in cases of life-threatening cardiopulmonary arrest, is a physically exhausting procedure. Adding to that, sometimes, even before performing CPR, interventions to rescue the injured person from a challenging environment have caused significant fatigue. In this study, taking a novel research approach, we generated a scenario of fatigue during a rescue from earthquake debris and aimed to measure the effect of that fatigue on the quality of CPR performed by paramedics.

Background: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease and the most common form of dementia. Although AD is characterized by the accumulation of amyloid beta (Aβ) plaques and neurofibrillary tangles (NFTs), it's estimated that nearly half of AD cases might be attributed to modifiable risk factors and lifestyle-based interventions may offer promising preventative strategies to delay disease onset and progression. Polyphenolic derivatives easily found in foods like luteolin and curcumin have shown beneficial effects to counteract cognitive decline.

Background: The use of blood biomarkers predictive of the presence of amyloid Aβ and ApoE4 is an effective tool to facilitate a timely AD diagnosis. About a third of dementia cases can be attributed to potentially modifiable risk factors, and the incidence of the disease can be reduced by addressing these factors. Memory Workshops integrated with early detection and actions on risk factors is an operational strategy that is both therapeutic and preventive.

Objective: To explore the genetic characteristics of a Chinese pedigree with rare mosaic 11q partial duplication and its pathogenetic mechanisms.
Methods: A pedigree which underwent prenatal diagnosis at Wenzhou Central Hospital between September 25, 2015 and November 30, 2023 was selected for the study. Clinical data were collected from the pedigree.
