Flavones are natural compounds that are broadly distributed in our diet. Their unique properties provide the possibility to control the immune system and the process of inflammation. A high intake of flavonoids, including flavones, may offer protection against reactive oxygen species, inflammation, and chronic diseases.

Neurodegenerative diseases are currently among the most devastating diseases with no effective disease-modifying drugs in the market, with Alzheimer's disease (AD) being the most prevalent. AD is a complex multifactorial neurodegenerative disorder characterized by progressive and severe cognitive impairment and memory loss. It is the most common cause of progressive memory loss (dementia) in the elderly, and to date, there is no effective treatment to cure or slow disease progression substantially.

Carbon monoxide (CO) is a toxic gas, and faulty gas appliances or solid fuel burning with incomplete combustion are possible CO sources in households. Evaluating household CO exposure models and measurement studies is key to understanding where CO exposures may result in adverse health outcomes. This assists the assessment of the burden of disease in high- and middle-income countries and informs public health interventions in higher-risk environments.

Aim: The present investigation aimed to explore in rats the early postnatal dysfunction of the brain muscarinic cholinergic system (EPDMChS) during the most vulnerable period of postnatal development, as the possible main factor for changes in adult hippocampal neurogenesis and disorders in hippocampus-dependent spatial learning and memory.
Methods: White inbred rats (n=15 in each group) were used. EPDMCHS was produced by a new method, which includes early postnatal blocking of M1-M5 muscarinic acetylcholine receptors in the rat pups, using subcutaneous injection of Scopolamine during postnatal days 7-28.

The impact of islet neuronal nitric oxide synthase (nNOS) on glucose-stimulated insulin secretion (GSIS) is less understood. We investigated this issue by performing simultaneous measurements of the activity of nNOS versus inducible NOS (iNOS) in GSIS using isolated murine islets. Additionally, the significance of extracellular NO on GSIS was studied.
